The slot there is for a hook which holds the factory parking brake cable. You don't seem to be using that hook.

Maybe by welding the slot closed, there will be less stress concentration, but probably you should weld a doubler plate over that area for more durability.

OK, thanks I couldn't remember what that slot was used for.
The crack appeared to follow the edge of a spot weld?
The extra force applied by the backing plate of the gearbox mount seemed to have stressed that area.

As I said above, this was old footage (from over a year ago).
The car has since passed inspection with no remarks, and the crack hasn't come back.
We'll see if it stays welded up after some drag racing this summer!

Great job on the repair but I would consider welding a steel plate over the cracked area for extra reinforcement and strength.
