A bee in his bonnet, the rabid wingnut began running about hysterically waving his arms to fend off the stingers of reality, the truth hurting his feelings. lol.
That was a great meme about Europe's energy grid. Everything worth knowing about it, compressed into a visual format that can be parsed and understood in less than a single second. With memes becoming so commonplace, it's hard to see any longterm future for universities or colleges, trade and other specialty schools, online courses and seminars, books, written language or even thought itself.

Except when my eyes run across a meme or a political-style cartoon that has Greta Thunberg, I almost never have any reason to think about Greta Thunberg. Not even when I see news reports like this:
quote
A facility described by Danish energy firm Orsted as the “world’s biggest offshore wind farm” is now fully operational, with its 165 turbines set to help power in excess of 1.4 million U.K. homes.
Situated roughly 89 kilometers (approximately 55 miles) off the coast of Yorkshire, England, the scale of Hornsea 2 is considerable.
According to Orsted, it has a capacity of more than 1.3 gigawatts and stretches across an area of 462 square kilometers — more than half the size of New York City. Hornsea 2, it added, uses Siemens Gamesa turbines with blades measuring 81 meters, or more than 265 feet.
“One revolution of the wind turbine blades can power an average UK home for 24 hours,” the company says.
It is the latest step forward for the Hornsea 2 project, which generated its first power in Dec. 2021.
The development comes as European countries attempt to wean themselves off Russian fossil fuels, including gas, following the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine in February.
That was about half of the entire report. There's also a couple of photographs.

Gee, If only SOMEONE could have had the foresight to warn them earlier.
Upon visual inspection, this meme looks undamaged and fully functional, but the Meme-o-Meter tells a different story.
The Meme-o-Meter reveals that this meme is trivializing something that's large and complicated—the energy situation across Europe—by equating it to nothing more than the well-known climate activist Greta Thunberg. As if Greta Thunberg were all that important. As if everyone who thinks about the energy situation across Europe (and by extension, the linkages between energy and climate all across the globe) thinks what they think about it because of Greta Thunberg.
This meme is an insult (or at least an irritant) to anyone that has read or viewed anything of substance about these issues, regardless of what they think about these issues.
This meme exceeds the permissible ppm threshold for GLIB (glibness) and BANA (banality). It's registration should not be renewed.
So this isn't considered a "insurrection" when the people on the left-wing radical group storm a parliament building. Takes over, glue themselves on the speaker seat, have leftist media photographers on the ready to take the picture?
Extinction Rebellion I guess gets a free pass anywhere they want, deface property, trespass the halls of government and it's all ok, because they are left-wing climate activist. The double standard is comical.
"More Offshore Wind Power Coming to the Carolinas' Coast"
quote
It’s called the Carolina Long Bay wind energy area. It covers 110,091 acres of ocean, roughly 15 miles offshore from Brunswick County. The entire area sits roughly straight out from the North Carolina-South Carolina border. And it appears North Carolina’s largest electric utility and a French oil company won the auction on Wednesday, May 11, to lease a pair of sites [for] wind energy production.
The Department of the Interior says TotalEnergies Renewables USA, LLC bid $160 million to win the right to build an offshore wind farm in the westernmost 54,937 acre section of the area. Duke Energy Renewables Wind, LLC won the bid for the easternmost 55,124 acre area, with a $155 million bid.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says the area together, if developed, could generate 1.3 gigawatts or more of energy, enough to power nearly 500,000 homes.
“Investments from the two developers mean increased supply chain investment and recruitment, workforce development and thousands of good-paying jobs and infrastructure development that will support other North Carolina industries," said Katharine Kollins, President of the Southeastern Wind Coalition, in a statement.
Federal officials called the auction a significant step towards the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030.
That's almost half of this new report. The remainder is online.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans."
Using Rome as a metaphor for Pennock's. (That, from Captain Obvious.)
Just for the record, I reviewed that 3-minute YouTube video of Trump's remarks about wind energy. That was at a Turning Point USA event in Florida, at the end of 2019. It's not video cut and paste. It's not a construction made by splicing together some words he said on one occasion with words that he said on another occasion. It's "authentic Trump."
His dumbest remarks came at the very beginning of it.
After that, he got a little more "real" and touched on some aspects of wind energy that are important and discussible.
quote
"You know, we have a world. The world is tiny, compared to the universe."
That's about 25 seconds after he started.
Trump, the Cosmologist. Whobody knew?
Edited to add:
I don't see how my including Trump's "wind mill rant" in this way is any more of a contrivance or a diversion than the meme that singled out Greta Thunberg. A contrivance, or a diversion from the substance of this thread, which at this point, is probably beyond any logical description.
People like "randye", that have nothing to say but like to talk anyway, just love to bring up Greta Thunberg. Big F'n Deal.
If I am one of randye's "pet lefitsts", what is randye to me? My pet rock? I guess. That's the first thing that comes to mind.

"Kenneth F. Siebel Jr. and Judith A. Siebel, parents of Newsom's wife Jennifer Siebel and longtime California residents, became Florida residents in 2020 after purchasing a $3.3 million Naples home in March of that year, records show. ..
This sort of puts Newsom's bitter, outlandish July attack ad into focus:
Newsom drew national attention in July for airing an ad in Florida, telling residents that "freedom is under attack" in the Sunshine State and urging them to move to California "where we still believe in freedom."
"As shocking as it may sound, Republicans “control” the majority of the cities in America, through the state legislature. City governments have only as much power as is granted to them by their state’s constitution and the state legislature. So ask yourself, how much power does the mayor of Saint Louis really have to combat crime when he’s up against a Missouri legislature hellbent on making gun available to every tom, dick and harry."
I'm not saying that it's the only smart reaction to that meme, or that it cannot be counter-argued.
By and large, memes of this kind don't mean s**t, whether they come from one particular political or cultural enclave, or another such enclave. From the "left" or from the "right".
That is my response to that meme from Wichita. I just scrolled right past that garbage from randye without slowing done, as soon as I saw what it was.

' The difference between theory and practice is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is. '
One could believe that with all the practice in politics that Biden_Joe has had in his sordid debauched life, that he would be be less divisive and confrontational, more compromising and beloved by his Nation. Not so much a democrat, the real marxist dictator coming out in Philadelphia, all Sturm und Drang, blathering on about the opposition party. ' How dare they think other theories of Constitutional Republic practice ! ' Waving and gesticulating his hands about like Adolph, Biden_Joe the ranting imbecile, the insane, inept fake pretendadent.
Joe Biden really is quite deranged, do you not see that ? Alinsky Protocol is all his speechwriters have, sadly. Pathetic, weak old man, destined soon for the footnotes of history, a minor stain on the Republic's Constitution, the Founding Documents.
Something big is coming before the November vote, escalation to a wider war, to justify invoking martial law, so then gripping power forever. ' They ' have a plan. Take the Nation to Socialist Utopia ! Oh, those romantic dreamers. fjb, the stool.
Originally posted by jdv: rinselberg California has the largest number of wind farms in the US and still has power issues. Why is that?
According to the most recent data that I have, Texas has been generating about 7 times as much electricity from wind, compared to California.
"California has 'power issues'... why is that?" That's not a sensible question. Too many different factors and considerations. Is California catching up with its electricity requirements, or falling further behind? Are you looking at right now, or looking at 10 years from now?
Just over a week ago, the Los Angeles Times published a magazine-length article that describes a plan involving the Anschutz Corporation to build a very large wind farm in Wyoming, and also build the transmission lines and other grid connectivity to bring electricity from that wind farm in Wyoming to the Los Angeles area.
Sea levels are rising and will continue to rise because LAND ice is melting. The glaciers that cover the landmasses of Greenland and Antarctica. As well as other glaciers in mountain areas around the world, but that's just fractional, compared to Greenland and even more, to Antarctica.
