Let this be a lightening rod, to save the other threads from needlessly repetitive distractions.

The link is to an excerpt from “Intellectuals and Society” by Thomas Sowell.
https://theindependentwhig....eft-right-dichotomy/

Here is the first paragraph:

quote
One of the fertile sources of confusion in discussions of ideological issues is the dichotomy between the political left and the political right. Perhaps the most fundamental difference between the left and the right is that only the former has even a rough definition. What is called “the right” are simply the various and disparate opponents of the left. These opponents of the left may share no particular principle, much less a common agenda, and they can range from free-market libertarians to advocates of monarchy, theocracy, military dictatorship or innumerable other principles, systems and agendas.

There are 32 paragraphs all together. I will let rinselberg do his “read-o-meter” thing.

You do realize (I hope) that it was connected to the message that immediately preceded it.

That, of course, being Fat's riposte to the way that the "goat" set up this topic (and I quote):

So I am really at a loss to understand what's behind this assessment, from "cliffw", that my posting of that GIF was "weak".

It seemed to me like an inspiration. Even an epiphany. I was looking at Fat's remark, and then it suddenly hit me (so to speak)—a GIF—and I knew exactly what I was looking for. A GIF of someone doing exactly what that woman is doing. It's as if that woman is a character on stage, acting out the role of Fats in this thread.

But "weak"..? I so did not see that one coming. That's a real puzzler.
