Oh my! You quoted him and opposed his ideas! What an evil man you must be!

(this refers to your quoting rayb, not Dratts)

We all have our moments. The problem is that for some, their whole life is one big moment.

What some will never understand is that I liked Dratts and could not stand sourmash. Yet many leftists see me as a deplorable member of the echo chamber simply because I am a conservative.

This is not a one dimensional game of Dozens. It is not "My Side" against "Your Side". Some just need to calm down, step back and take a look at the scenery. There is no prize. What you seek is inside you.

Maybe some, but I certainly didn't. I used to enjoy discussing music with you. And then one day in some stupid political thread, you went totally off your rocker and accused me of "attacking America". I had done no such thing. I practically begged you to reconsider your gross misinterpretation of whatever it was I had stated... but no, your mind was made up... I had "attacked America", and therefore I was now persona non grata.

I have to agree 100% with Vintage-Nut.

I don't think it needs to be taken in any wider context.

The message that Patrick reproduced in image format was not from the "Goat."

Patrick obviously didn't want to make it possible for anyone to find that message and discover (with their own eyes) which forum member that was.

I think that's good thinking by Patrick.

I'd suggest just leaving this where it stands.

I quoted both you and Jake due to use of the word "fun".

I've previously stated that it was not Jake's post... contrary to what Jake himself initially believed!

And I'll make it 100% clear here that it was not your (williegoat) post either.

[EDIT] I've also now added a disclaimer at the bottom of the original post on page one.

I'll give the person responsible for that post an opportunity to own up to it. I can then supply a link if necessary.

I see some things never change. Some folks are still stoking the fire or stirring the pot.

Nope, not worth further comment.

Hell, I'll take blame or credit for the offensive quote.

If some members here find this quote "offensive", then maybe it shouldn't have been made in the first place.

Bla, Bla Bla............... First, I'm not going back to read any pissing contest that's should have been forgotten long ago, I don't remember or know the context or the way that contest started and don't care. What amazes me is, it was even brought back up. Ever hear of water under the bridge? Holding hard feelings over an internet pissing contest? I just don't care. Personally, I'm enjoying Willie's posts. Note to Cliff, there needs to be a "Rolls Eyes Message Icon" for threads like this.

Not good enough. I really do not see remarks about other forum members. Just other's opinion. I am sure any member would buy me a beer, as I would them.

I wonder what camp Vintage-Nut is in, or, if he does not understand people have differences they defend ?

Vintage-Nut must not realize ... previously the T/OT generated the most traffic of all the sub PFF forums. Now it is Politics / Religion.

This "meme" can be seen on three levels:
The fist is obvious.
The second is esoteric, and the reason for the existence of the image.
The third involves physics and spans the bridge between acceptance and true understanding.

Obvioiusly, no clue. Please don't go into translating for political leaders, There's no doubt in my mind war would ensue.

OK, seen and read enough. I'll go back to (as CliffW put it) the shallow end of the pool.

Cliff Pennocks, we really could use a "Rolling Eyes Message Icon".

It's actually one of Willie's remarks that's being examined. Willie said "We used to be able to have fun [on this forum] and be creative, but a few unhappy people had to ruin it." (On the first page of this thread.)

As a summation of some bygone times on the forum, that is not entirely without value, but the actual forum history is more nuanced. There was also a "dark side" of incivility during those times that was literally jaw-dropping in its vulgarity and rudeness. It was totally "uncalled for", as that idiom is generally understood. I myself was drawn into it, and became part of it, to a not inconsiderable extent.

After certain discussions, both public and private, culminated in the august (pun intended) declaration of August 15, 2020, when the forum's owner and moderator went public with his resolve to take a more active hand (so to speak) in his moderator role, and went public with his intent to become more reactive and also more proactive in reestablishing a general civility for the forum that had long gone by the wayside.

There's no doubt that Cliff Pennock has made good on his. word. He has used his moderator's role to guide us, and even at times, to prod us, into achieving a level of Incivility Mitigation that could hardly have been imagined at that time, after the apocalyptic horsemen of Vulgarity and Rudeness had completely taken hold in certain quarters, ruining many of the possibilities for agreeable and rewarding discussions.

But it's not all on Cliff Pennock.

I think the value of that screenshot of singularly ugly remarks from "days gone by" is to remind us against complacency. We should not let pass without remark even the smaller incivilities that still occur today, because the still smoldering embers, if left unchecked, could reignite a conflagration of incivility that would not restore the forum to any of its former greatness. Rather, it would undo the Incivility Mitigation that has already been achieved, and "Make the Forum Worse Again."

Civility does not imply Political Correctness, and Incivility is not a friend of free and open discourse: it's a toxin that poisons and kills the possibilities for free and open discourse. The evidence persists in the annals of this forum.

The substitution of "leftoid" for "leftist" is always stupid. Aside from being inherently stupid, it also reeks of "trite" and "stale."

Of course, she needs a physical, that's normal. But in addition to that, she also has to submit:
- Proof of Insurance
- Buy EXTRA Insurance (school required sports insurance)
- Sign 3 pages in triplicate that say we won't sue if anything happens. (one set for each parents, and one for the child)
- Watch a Sudden Cardiac Arrest video series and exam, and then upload the certificate.
- Watch a Heat Stroke video series and exam, and then upload the certificate
- Watch a (some other one, she hasn't done it yet), and then upload the certificate
- Upload her birth certificate
- Upload proof of residency (even though we're already in the school and had to supply that already)
- Upload my drivers license
- Upload her Passport or some other government ID if she didn't have one.
- Upload ELS2 Forms (bunch of nonsense stuff which says all the stuff in the other documents)
- Upload ELS3 Forms (bunch of more nonsense stuff)
- Upload a form saying we don't need financial aide for the track uniform

And there's at least 3 or 4 other things that are required that I'm forgetting.

Do you know what I had to do when I signed up for high school sports back in the 90s? I just showed up after school... and then they asked me to have my doctor fill out a form saying I'd had a physical. That's it... that's literally it. I got so enraged last night because I couldn't believe how ridiculous this has gotten. At least half the parents in the school would say "F-this," and not even put their kids into sports. I literally have to create an account on some website, and then my daughter has to go through three multi-part video series with Q and A sections, and a final exam at the end... three of these. It's like WTF?

I remember him. Yes, great guy. I never understood why he left the forum. He mentions his disgust for the modern day blues. He also mentions our support for his musical endeavors.

I wonder why he did not blaze ahead with his "blues". Blues encompass many genres of music.

OMG, that is so funny... I assumed entirely that this was merely a Gilligan's Island reference... like, which do you like better meme... that's pretty funny.

I play bass... or at least I used to. I had a Fender P-Bass... a really nice red wine colored one... I babied that thing. I ended up donating it to a children's center, so it's probably beat to **** now. I have my Yamaha XB or something in the closet still... can't remember. It's been nearly a decade since I picked it up... but I used to play in a band... loved the bass.

But really, I'm a violinist at heart. Still play it at least once a week.

You know that the sound changes on your fiddle, depending on how close to the bridge you bow the string. Well, the same thing happens on a guitar. The differential in amplitude between the fundamental frequency and the harmonics is greater, the closer you get to the middle of the string. Knowing the physics behind that phenomenon is the third level that I alluded to in my post.

I am a bass player by trade. Started on drums when I was 10, bass at 16. Still play at 62 years young.. don’t play out anymore, just at church.
I’ll keep playing until I can’t.

Sadly, he left us (and not just the forum) a while back.
