Republicans wear homemade ear bandages in solidarity with Trump: 'Newest fashion trend'

Some Republican National Convention attendees are showing their support of Trump following his assassination attempt.

Days after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pa., supporters have been showing their solidarity by wearing bandages on their ears.

A gunman opened fire at Trump's rally Saturday, injuring the former president on his right ear and killing Corey Comperatore, 50. Two others were injured: David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, both of whom are now in stable condition. Investigators are still working to uncover a motive for the shooting.

Trump's former doctor, Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas, said he personally examined Trump's wound, and told the New York Times, "The bullet took a little bit off the top of his ear in an area that, just by nature, bleeds like crazy."

Trump surprised audiences at the Republican National Convention on Monday by making his first public appearance since the shooting, where he greeted supporters while wearing white gauze wrapped around his ear.

On the second night of the convention, delegates and attendees were photographed wearing makeshift "bandages" — from folded-up slips of paper to pieces of tape — on their right ears to showcase their solidarity with Trump.

Arizona delegate Joe Neglia was one of the first people photographed wearing the ear bandage during the second night of the convention. Neglia told CBS News he folded up an envelope "on the bus on the way here" to wear on his right ear.

“This is the newest fashion trend. I’m getting this going. Everybody in the world is going to be wearing these pretty soon," Neglia said.

The accessory wasn't limited to delegates. Conservative radio hosts Steve Johnson and Kenny Webster shared a photo of themselves wearing bandages on X and advertised they were selling "official MAGA ear patch" merchandise online (however, the website link they provided did not have any listings for ear patches).

Democrats have plans to one up the Republicans. They are all going to wear diapers at their convention in tribute to Big Joe.

Make sure to post a link to the news story!

The difference between scenarios of course, is that one is pure fanciful speculation... whereas the other is actually occurring... as we speak!

Well, I'm not into such things but, there's seems to be a lot of solidarity surrounding Trump that was caused by the assassination attempt.
While I'm voting against Biden, even if I was a big DJT fan, I wouldn't be wearing a bandage. But I don't care if others do.

So, is your concern based on some Canadian fashion norm or fad?

Edited due to a spelling error.

On the contrary, I'm genuinely concerned about the mental stability of people who would do that... whether they be Republicans or Democrats, Americans or Canadians, etc.

I find it to be rather bizarre, but sure... it could just be me.

Sports fans wear team related clothing and car guys wear auto branded clothing, etc.

Is that also going full retard as well?

As a person who has a nephew with developmental disabilities I find the use of a certain word rather offensive, so glad you determined "bootlicker" was the word. Cliff can we please have the title changed to remove the word "r******" as well as the post that used it also.

Look, I don't have any problem with you personally. I don't believe I ever have. I find this whole section of PFF to be "offensive", but if I choose to waste time here, then I only have myself to blame for being offended. I don't believe I've broken any forum rules. Members have referred to each other here using far worse terminology than "retard". And the fact is, I'm not even addressing any other member here with that term. Those people who've been pictured here will never see this thread. They'll never know that I feel their actions are retarded.

Patrick, I have never had issue with you either. However I have asked that word not to be used/changed and your response is to make more jokes,. I hope you have a pleasant evening. I do appreciate the title change.

Dan, this is the Politics & Religion section of a car forum. There are forum rules in place (none of which I believe I've broken), but pretty much anything else goes. Words are often used here for shock value. I'm no angel, I'm not above engaging in this activity. It's unfortunate that there's one word in particular that you don't wish to see being used, but it was not directed at you or anyone else in your family. Please just avoid viewing this thread if you don't wish to be further offended.

Ya'll are getting awfully wrapped up. I think maybe take a step back, realize that the spirited conversation is great, but that we're all held together by a greater mutual love?

I get why you're feeling attacked here Pat, there's something of a theme to this section of the forum, and I totally get wanting to stand your ground. I just don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze on this one. I don't want to be responsible for making another member feel like we're engaging in something that damages their family member (and I'd be open to an argument that says normalizing a behavior does just that), and from the interactions that we've had it doesn't seem like you do either.

I also question if this is really the time for a gang-up-and-kill series of comments.

Then again I'm still too new here to be lecturing you all even as much as I have already. It's right there in my name.

Also, the ear patches are pretty stupid.

Oh, I can shrug it off easy enough. This has been going on for years. The usual suspects here lost their favorite whipping boy a few months back, when long-time forum member rinselberg suddenly died. The crocodile tears shed by members who had spent years ridiculing and insulting him on a daily basis made me want to puke. Some of those members have posted in this very thread. Rinselberg was an honorable guy, and I'll never forget how he was treated... or by whom.

I've noticed while watching many conventions that folks wear all kind of weird stuff (I'm thinking just to be noticed), it seems to have worked.

We need to make trump the FIRST KING of the United States of Trump...and then eliminate all voting- he makes all decisions forever...and when he passes away (IF he does- he's from Heaven, after all) Then the US of T will be disbanded and all structures in America destroyed....

Also, all cities MUST have a statue of Trump at their city halls.

This is the only way to make Trump and trump-supporters happy.....
