Ah. I mentioned what I did, only because just in the last couple of days, there's been an egg recall up here due to salmonella contamination. I didn't know how widespread this issue might've been.

Yes, bird flu, in Georgia. If the US state of Georgia were an independent nation, it would be the 6th largest poultry producer in the world. Within the last few days, 2 large commercial flocks within Ga have already been euthanized, and another flock has been discovered infected in Virginia.

All live poultry sales (sales barns and flea markets, etc.) in GA have been prohibited until further notice.

Yep, my "Spousal Unit" and I are planning on getting a small flock for our semi-forested area in our back yard although, it's not due to any egg shortage. That area drastically cleared from when we bought the property is infested with all kinds of bugs, ticks and other such creepy crawlers. We enjoy having them (the chickens, not the bugs) and they will help eliminate the bugs that bite, suck and bother both of us. Just need to get that enclosure built. So much to do, so little time and money to get it done.

Damn, that Biden and the Dems for not doing anything earlier.

Uh, oh...

Figured I'd get the obligatory "it's Biden and the Dems fault" in first.

BTW, from the Australian Department of Agriculture website on Avian Influenza...

"Avian influenza virus strains are described as low pathogenicity avian influenza (LPAI) or high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI).

Australia remains free from H5 HPAI (H5 bird flu) which is a different strain to recent and current outbreaks of H7 bird flu.

Current strains of avian influenza do not appear to transmit easily between humans.

Eggs and chicken meat are safe to eat provided they are handled and cooked according to standard food handling practices.

Agriculture Victoria has confirmed H7N8 HPAI on four commercial chicken egg farms in northern Victoria. (Victoria is a State in Australia abutting New South Wales to the north and South Australia to the west.)

A restricted area of 5 km is in place around the infected properties, with a wider control area in place across Strathbogie Shire to the east of the Goulburn Valley Highway. This is to prevent movements that could spread the virus.

A housing order is in place in the 5km restricted area for producers with 50 or more birds. This means birds must be housed or enclosed in sheds or cages to separate them from wild birds."

Translation: Keep your chickens in the coop and away from wild birds that can spread the disease.

(edited for context)

Well, you got it in first.
Actually, recently heard on some news programs that the "Bird Flu" is survivable by flocks of chickens. Have no idea if that's true or not. But Biden's Sec. of AG ordered millions of chickens and egg producers to destroy their flocks.

Caveat: Again, not suggesting the above is factual but, I heard what I heard. Haven't found anything to back that up though. And, I don't care enough to research it.
This is one of Mother Nature's Gotcha things she springs on us from time to time. If we keep our heads about it, we'll survive.
