Posted as "political" because it will undoubtedly go that way.

This is a guy who I have been following on YouTube for nearly a year, now.
He is right, more times than not.
He might be exaggerating, but I don't think so. Time will tell.

The CAFE standards are terrible. The explosion of pickup trucks and SUVs over the last three decades is a direct result of the CAFE standards. It is stupid that a station wagon is held to a much higher MPG standard than SUVs. Thanks to the CAFE standards, compact cars and pickup trucks have virtually disappeared. The price of vehicles has skyrocketed as a result.

I do not agree with eliminating all emission standards. Catalytic converters are very necessary on most vehicles. Try sitting in traffic behind a vehicle with no cats and breathing in that crud for 10 minutes. They could get rid of everything after OBD I as far as I am concerned.

California only has authority to regulate emissions because it is granted an exception in the federal law. Change the law and California will not be able to regulate emissions anymore.

Because the California Air Resources Board (CARB) had gone nuts over the past ten years, it has had a big effect nationwide. Many other states passed laws that peg their emission standards to California's standards. Because of this, most automobile makers just create a single vehicle that meets the higher California standard. There is virtually no such thing as a non-California emission vehicle anymore.

My daughter is now supporting SEMA SAN (SEMA Action Network). Apparently, there are 12 other states that directly follow California's lead on emissions.

I have to watch the video / go to the link... but rolling back all emissions would be a bad idea. What we need to do though is set basic guidelines and allow car companies to meet certain standards on their own, and not this "zero footprint" nonsense which is literally impossible. Everyone will go to huge trucks. Like Doug said above... everyone now drives trucks because cars have basically disappeared... and that's directly because of both the environmental and insurance lobby.
