So ive tried searching on the forum and came across multiple threads with different answers. What are the range of wheel sizes that are compatible with an 88 formula? ive read one post that a guy had 17x7's on the front and 18x8's on the rear, and another post a guy said dont put anything bigger than 16's. just want some clarification because not alot of wheels i find i like come in 16.

And how about offset? do any of you have any pics/personal recommendations for aftermarket wheels?

thanks

In my opinion stick with the stock off set. That car is designed for it with the suspension. Besides the 15" blacked out wheels looks pretty tits!

Look 2/3 of the way down on page 2 of the "show off you custom rims" thread. You can see my yellow 88 GT with 18's front and rear. The wheels are both staggared widths and offsets, along with the tires sizes and pictures from different angles. All the specs are in the description and you can see how they fit the car. LMK if this helps. If you can't find the thread PM me and I will send you the link.

If you like the wheels, i still have them and they have no curb rash. You will need to replace the tires.

Wheels have different offsets which makes them stick out or set in more regardless of theor diameter, also the tire outer diameter makes a big difference. You can fit larger ones on teh rear usually because they dont have to turn, in front they could hit the wheel well. Other considerations are rubbing on your strut or brakes. Also 88s suspension makes the front wheels stick out more than the rear so unless you like to look wide track in the front youd want a different offset or thinner wheel in front.

After reading a lot of the threads, plus seeing what sizes were regularly available, I came to the conclusion the best 17" setup that maintains a roughly stock profile is:

Front
17x7
Offset: 38mm
Backspacing: 5.55"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Tire Size:215/45-17 (-0.3% difference - at 60mph indicated, actual speed is 59.8mph)

Rear
17x8
Offset: 38mm
Backspacing: 5.55"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Tire Size:225/45-17 (-0.7% difference - at 60mph indicated, actual speed 59.6mph)
Or: 245/40-17 (-1.8% smaller - at 60mph indicated, actual speed 58.9mph) (this is the widest I'd want to run on an 8" wide wheel.

I like your recommendation, as I have almost that exact setup and love it. One change: make the rear 35mm offset. it lines up PERFECTLY with the fronts.

Here is some background information that may prove helpful.
. .Stock wheels for 1988 Fiero GT and Formula:
. .15x6”. . .+37mm offset. . .1988 Front ONLY.
. .15x7”. . .+30mm offset. . 1988 Rear ONLY.

Below is a link to a thread on PFF that has a diagram that may also prove helpful.
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/058236.html

Below is a link to a web site that will allow you to compare the stock wheel & tires to what ever wheel & tire that you are thinking of buying.
http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Also I have a 1988 GT. Before I upgraded to coilovers,
I had the the following wheels & tires with a completely stock suspension.

. .Wheels 16x7" +48. . BBS RG-F wheels (Front & Rear)
. .Front tires 225/50-16 tires
. .Rear tires 245/50-16 tires
I had no problems with the tires rubbing any where.

I hope the above info proves helpful.
If you still have questions you might drop a PM to either Boozberry, or Fieroguru here on PFF.
They are two of the most knowledgeable guys on PFF.

I wish you Good Luck in your search.
