I just bought myself a new camcorder, and wanted to try it out. Here is a clip of my car, so you know what the idle sounds like from a Flowtech Afterburner muffler if you are ever looking into purchasing one.
Looks good, sounds good, runs good conservatively speaking. I'm curious as to whether or not it would be better to torque strut the transmission instead of the engine since it's the anti-torque from the transmission that's trying to move the engine backwards along with it. I suspect in high torque tranny case failures the added leverage like stress on the bell housing might contribute to case failures not related to gear displacement.
I appreciate being able to hear the exhaust note minus the music, I hate trying tune out audio tracks in an effort to appreciate the sound of the engine.

I will probably add a strut to the trans side sooner or later, I believe it needs it there. Its just a matter of time, and motivation. I am still in the "it's all over, and I don't want to do anything to it" mode.
I thought the trans would go before anything, it has over 140K on it and stcok internals. I was driving to work this morning, and I down shifted into second from 30mph, and the CV blew up. I thought for sure it was the trans by the grinding, and me not moving anywhere, but thankfully it was just the drivers side CV.
Now I have to clean this mess up, but it should be up and running in no time
Does anybody have any suggestions on a stronger axle, I belive this one was stock, and the longer one I replaced with an AZ axle.

I believe the axle from a 94 chevy beretta with a 4 speed automatic passenger side will slide right in place of the drivers side getrag. This new axle uses the larger 1" inner shaft but retains the smaller hub and tranny joints. You may have to pop the ABS ring off.
Ive broken 2 of the stock driver side axles in my turbo DOHC, next time round im going to try this new shaft

Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into that. I do have a lifetime warrenty with Auto Zone, so for now I will replace it with another one. The funny thing is that the warrenty is for my old auto trans axel, but they accepted this axle with no questions.
I know this is a bit of an old thread, but there are two things I'm having a hard time finding that I'd really like to order soon. One is an exhaust flange to bolt up to the 3800 exhaust manifold- I didn't do a ton of looking into this but if someone has a link off hand it'd save me the trouble
The second I looked for a few hours and can find nothing. I want a T fitting as pictured here, so that I won't have to use the Fiero Thermostat housing

The T-filler can be bought from Summit, Jegs, ect. I think most get the flange from a stock GP downpipe and use it. You might want to check ZZP to see if they sell just the flange. I am sure some one else will come in and will know where to buy it.
Just to keep everyone updated, and in case Golden86 ever stops by to read this -
Car is still intact and turning heads, but now lives in PA. The exhaust has been redone to include full mandrel bends, a magnaflow muffler, and a magnaflow cat. Emergency brake has been reconstructed and functions. Transmission did eventually give up the ghost, and was replaced. Mounts were improved with heavier duty units all around. Currently searching for a set of synchro rings or a rebuild kit as 3rd seems to want to scratch unless you give it time to synch up or double clutch it.
About 6000 miles on the swap so far, and still pulls great.
Congrats and thanks to Golden86, and $Rich$ for getting this car together and keeping it together so I can enjoy it as much as I do.
If your going through all this trouble making things work, I would suggest a full dyno tune or a tuning setup with a wideband be your next investment. I know there is gobs of power left in this car.
Funny you should mention that. I'm actually hard at work trying to find a reputable tuner in this area. I've found a mustang guy, and an import guy, but so far no good GM guy. For anyone else reading along, would love to hear anything you know about a shop that can tune the 3800sc's within 2 hours drive of Allentown, PA.
I will try to get under it for pics this weekend. (small space, large photographer. )

In case the link doesn't work, search for "muncie 282" and it will come up. The one sold by ManTranz is the one I'm referring to. Same company that rebuilt mine.
BoH - Spoken with both of them already. FA mentioned someone in the Reading area that he was waiting to hear back from, but I've yet to get any word on that. I'll post the details if that pans out.
GC - Thank you - ordered it. I made the assumption that you are happy with yours or you wouldn't have recommended it.

I actually bought an entirely rebuilt trans from them and am very happy with it. I haven't ordered their rebuild kit yet, but probably will soon.
Your going to want to specify you want more than just fuel tuning, your timing table will most likely have tons of room in it also.
Tune it leaned out first, then start walking up the timing. I would suggest a happy knob type setup, which would let you adjust your timing advance VIA the IAT sensor. This would give you a small amount of flexibility to greatly adjust for changing weather conditions to get maximum power.
Another update. Transmission swap is temporarily on hold while I sort out the tuning issues. Project: "Run Screaming!" is entering the next phases. Up soon - Headers, Wideband, tuning. Should be done by spring with a bit of luck and a strong tailwind. Might sneak a seat recovering onto it as well while the weather is cold. Flo-jet IC pump also quit, and I just got its replacement - the Ford Racing OEM unit for the lightnings/cobras. Need to get that installed sometime over the holiday weekends.

Good choice for pump replacement. When/If mine dies again then this will be it's replacement.
I spoke to him tonight. Agreed on a throttle body upgrade to the Northstar bit. Been awhile without a picture in this thread, so here is one for the masses:
The car looks as great as the photos show. The swap is quite clean, and I'm glad to be involved with the car.
All the things that saboo has bought for me to install, are going to compliment the setup well. As long as the engine is healthy, it will be a very strong setup.
Pictures will be taken during the process, so he can update everyone as it comes together.

Its been years since I have seen that car, looks good, and im glad it isnt wrapped around a tree yet.
I am also glad someone is FINALLY tuning it, because I never had the time, or money to do so. I know that engine has a tone of potential the way I built it.
You did a great job putting that car together, and I'm glad you found your way to this thread again. It still turns heads and generates compliments everywhere it goes. There are alot of untapped horses hiding in there, we're going to see if we can get them out.
