Well... I didn't do as good as I hoped. The first run was basically a shake down run. I took it easy in 1st and 2nd, hit it hard in 3rd and it slipped in 4th. Sometimes the clutch needs to get a little warm for it to hold. I hot lapped it, went right back to the staging lanes. I did a nice easy launch in 1st, easy shift into 2nd gradually pushing the gas pedal down to max, then full out in 3rd and 4th. Ran 11.54@132.68. I was pretty pumped about running that good.
I waited around and talked to some people. I wanted to wait to launch it till the end of the day in case I put oil down on the track from an explode trans. After a few hours I went back out there and tried to cut a better 60'. I made way too much boost in first spun and wheel hoped. Shifted into 2nd early. spun for a hundred feet hit 3rd and 4th, let off a bit short on the line. Went 11.77@129.33. I was racing a grand national so I might have been a little amped, haha.
Went right back around to the starting line again, so did the GN. Tried to be a little easier in 1st. I made way too much boost again and wheel hopped even worse. Broke the passenger side axle inside the tripot on the trans side. Haven't pulled it out yet, the boot clamp flung off and pulled back some. I think it broke where the axle shaft meets the 3 roller bearing things. I should have taken a picture of first 60' of track. It's really bumpy. I could see my tracks from the run before it was like 2' squares of tread lines. Lapeer isn't the best track around but it was the only one open this time of year.
Scott followed me to the track with the trailer and I really didn't have any intention on driving it home, unless I met my goal. I wish I had a little more self control to let out when it was hopping at the start. Overall It was a good time. I am happy to get my 130+mph trap. I always figured It would do it but I hate throwing around numbers without proof. I really think there is a 10 second slip in there if I can get a good smooth launch. Especially if you compare the 1/8 miles of my old slip!
I ran the car the same way as I drive on the street, right down to the tire pressure, except I removed my air filter. (if that makes sense)
There should be some in car video and some from the stands coming.
How are you making too much boost? Wastegate + Boost controler not doing its job properly? Do you just randomly overboost or can you do it at will? I need to know these thinks so when I go turbo this spring I can learn from your mistakes and beat you to the 10's.
what I mean is...I was trying to ease the power on the launch. I kept spooling too fast, making too much power, overcoming tire traction. Some kind of progressive boost controller would take the guess work out. I just love all the people that think you wont make any power out of the hole with a turbo
I wish I would have got another run so I could try to launch in 2nd. I would think the boost would come in a little slower and smoother, not as violent.

Tune out the power and get some larger diameter wheels. Don't you have a DHP powrtuner?
The sad thing is we have an adjustable spool controller on this.... we could probably try adjusting the VGT actuation to react slower at low engine loads...
I have videos all over, ill work on getting them uploaded here eventually.
Was pretty funny pulling onto the track with the trailer ready to go within 2 minutes of the axle going.

I never even thought of that. I should have just disconnected the actuator and left the vgt rack wide open. I have some things to think about for the next time we go to the track.

I'm going with a dual stage boost controler along with some fine tuning. Low boost off the line and high boost once I get going.
Sounds like fun! At least you spanked the GN on the previous run. So has anybody made it to the tens yet? Is there still a 1/4 mile time thread? The only one I found seemed to be pretty old.
Right now it looks like a turbo on a bench, a engine on an engine stand, and a transmission with a broken 4340 input shaft sittIng on the floor, all in front of my car in the garage. I could take pics, but it wouldn't be that interesting I don't think.

Probably changing the mounting method, but it basically sits sideways just beneath where the flat of the upper trunk is. Inlet and outlet point to drivers side, aluminum cast 90 from turbo into Intercooler top inlet, aluminum tubing leaves the bottom outlet of Intercooler, with bov mounted there, then up and through rear firewall, and into MAF, then into northstar TB.

I swapped out axles today. I was wrong about which side. The drivers side hub end was what broke. The passenger side CV boot clamp broke and the boot pulled back. It all looks fine so I just put a new clamp on the boot.

Thax, but I need to see a pic, I just can't "see" it.

HAHAHA what a crap idea lol. You will never need to make less power at the line trust me.

The real question is who will be first to 9's, next year should be interesting.
Dont actually make me go outside and bolt the rest of my parts onto my car.... I was SO lazy this year I never wanted to actually get my single digit slip.. I dont know why..
darkhorizon this is a great thread it has good info . I don't know if that 351VE will work for my engine but i sure hope it will due to the 3.4 dohc are not known for low end but if it would spool up that low in the rpm i think it would help out big time keep up the good work
Well hopefully the competition between you a FieroX will push you both to get it done. I want to see it happen next year.
Ugg, I know right!
I just need to man up and turn wrenches on my car for a few hours... ugg! I street raced way way too much this year and ended up breaking it just before track days.

Nosrac might since he does that street style racing at TMS on an unprepped surface.
I suppose if you need to run a wussy tire... I still struggle to spin stuff down low with the slicks on even on the street. I can control my boost ramp via how much I brake stall it pretty easily.

I got a idea how to actuate the VGT it's not all my idea but this is how it would work . so when just cruising on the high way you don't see any boost but when you tromp on it boost will be instant . I got a idea how to actuate the VGT it's not all my idea but this is how it would work . first you need a dual port actuator for the internal wastegate type turbo hook both sides to the manifold through a 4 port solenoid one side you will hook up so it See's vacuum only and the other side See's boost only to the actuator and solenoid is triggered by a vacuum switch so either side will of the actuator will get vented to the air and the other side will see manifold boost or vacuum . now how i think it would work is while cruising the vacuum pulls the VGT open so no boost but when you slam your foot in it the vacuum drops and the solenoid is closed to the vacuum side and opend to the boost side and the vacuum side is then vented to the air the VGT closes and then as boost builds it now activates the boost side of the actuator to start opening the VGT until you get to the boost you set with a manual boost controller that hooked to the boost side when setting up you would need to figure out where to set the VGT with out any boost or vacuum would that work ?

U running Drags? What is your best 60' with them? Was that a stock Fiero Axle that you broke?
If I can launch at my same ole 1.7 and trap 130 then I am guessing 10.8. I'm good.
I currently don't have any loosey-goosey even @ 112. But then again I have some $$$ in my suspension.
Yes nt555r. I was running 1.7's with some other dr's. First time I've had these on the track. OEM fiero axle. I was referring to breaking traction at 60+mph might fill your shorts if you are not expecting it.
I blame the wheel hopping on a shitty track breaking my axle. I've never wheel hoped with drag radials at Milan, which is a top notch drag strip.
You will see soon enough what an extra 200hp will do

Agreed and that is why I going for the Dual Stage Boost controler as I really don't want all that power off the line. But right after I pass the 60' mark...(Rocket Switch)
Wheel hop broke that axle.. you can easily do this with a very low power supercharged swap.
Justin and I both have to run a serious compound tire to keep these things on the ground. His 17 inch drag radials are pretty crappy under 40mph..
I am running a much laggier setup and a 15 inch slick that will hook anything. If you went with a 10.5 wide drag radial on a 15 inch wheel you will not ever have issues.
