New to Fieros, came across a 85 in the fall with a manual Iron Duke ($350) and thought it would be cool car for when I get my Drivers Licence in May/June.



Then when looking locally for parts can across a 86 SE Body looks good 2.8 blown traded my dads 81 Dodge Truck for it (truck was junk).



Then found a 3800 sc from an 97 Bonniville ssei.($450)
Started cleaning up the engine:

Now that spring maybe here in Canada started preparing for the swap into the 86 then discovered that it had very bad rust.
Lower frame almost gone

Good think I bought this for parts earlier ($100)



the space frame is rust free by are standards (surface only)

So, I will be very thankful for all your comments and advice as I swap the body panels and motor.

He did seem about 45-50 ish. but in a Street race The Fiero is bad to da bone.

First real day of taking apart the 86'



Just about apart. Surprisingly easy to take apart :P

Just an update:



Motor pretty much ready to go




Sand blasted the cradle and and sprayed on truck bedliner.

Havent really been keeping up much on my posting but finally got the parts car stripped excluding the harness inside the car and the cradle which is going out asap.
Wiring harness and computer re write came back after a mishap and im finally getting close to putting my 3800 in. Needing tranny conversion parts as my tranny is
a 5 speed getrag from a 95 beretta, and a clutch which is all being ordered within the next month.

Any updates?

Snow + cold weather is here which pretty much stops the project until the snow leaves due to not having a garage. Parts car is completely stripped and my 3800 will be going into my other 86 in the spring. Will be keeping you guys posted on purchases this winter.

Tranny all painted and all ready to go onto cradle. Came out of a 92 beretta with 8000km since rebuild. Installed FWD conversion kit from Rodney Dickman and powdercoated mounts.

Thanks...Colors turned out much better than I thought at 1st.

The plans have changed alot from what I was going to do, It started as a basic swap. But as my Dad always tells me "If you are going to do something you might as well do it the the way you what it the 1st time and do it right."

The motor and tranny are done in a smoke chrome and the blue is Translucent Blue over Reflective Chrome powder coat, that I did myself in the back yard.

3.4" pulley, the large badge I am putting on the supercharger where the fuel rail was bolted. Not sure what the little one be used for yet.

Getting the 4 cylinder out.

Very impressed with the build. I really wanted to do something like this when I was your age, but it never worked out. Best I could do then was an 1985 Starion which I ran around in until the turbo started spewing oil into the intake. I was a broke teenager and couldn't afford a new or rebuilt turbo, so I parted the car out. In hindsight, I should have stuck with it. I look forward to seeing more progress.

Cool build! I really like what you're doing. Those custom rear vents are killer!

Awesome that headers are easier to install on a fiero than stock exhaust manfolds.

Before u get to much farther...Turn ur motor over using the crank bolt to make sure u have no clutch to trans issues and it rotates freely. Just had an issue with Clutchnet sending the wrong PP causing issues.

I like your exhaust setup, where did you order it from and did it all come as a kit? also where did you get those fiero badges?

Thanks guys, I'll check and make sure the motor rotates freely, sure hope no problems but alot easier to fix now than later.

The exhaust headers are pacesetter for the Grande Prix and I just bought stainless tubing and the Magnaflow X pipe muffler from summit and piecing it together. Any progress? New parts? More importantly new pictures?

Not much has changed during the winter. Here are a couple of pics didn't post last fall.

These are the parts I draw up and had hydro cut, the pieces on the left are a front motor mount. The ones on the right are for the alternator mount.

WoW nice, Y couldn't I've thought of that solution? Using some exhaust Donuts will tighten up those bends if the exhaust is too far out.

Yeah this alternator bracket works without A/C. We used the other parts that were cut to build a motor mount that bolts up to where the A/C compressor would bolt, hoping there will be no need for a dog bone. When the snow melts and I can get at the shed where to engine is stored I will post a picture.

Took these parts and welded i tube in to fit a poly bushing.

Still need to build the cradle side of the mount.

Quick update. Took most of last year off, my Dad discovered he had a generic heart condition and had emergency open heart surgery so the projects got put on hold. Now that he is feeling better than ever we'll be going hard at it.

Just curious, is that exhaust gonna be trunk friendly or are you gonna have to cut up the trunk ? It looks awesome !

NOT trunk friendly most of it will have to be cut out.
