I am starting to do some really cool stuff with headlight control and want to start a "resource thread"
This is NOT about headlight motors!
If you suggest good resource threads, I will paste them at the top of each page

Here we go!
Y adapter configuration 90mm Headlight Harness Schematic by Oreif
Marvin knows what he is talking about Conversion Headlight Information and Beam Comparison by Marvin McInnis

Know a good thread we have not found?
Post it here

Rick

I am now adding Halos to my quad Hella lighting system and want to talk about the different ways to set it up.

What poses the challenge is that you want the halos on whenever you lights are on (or up).
This is very simple if you are running a FTL (full time low) dual relay harness.
Just tap the low beam feed at the bucket (for my stuff it will always be the yellow wire)
If you have "Y adapters" the simplest way is by tapping both high and low beam and isolating them with a pair of diodes.
More on that later.

Recently we did a car that the owner wanted to control everything independently from the dash.
We installed two headlight switches in an "over and under' fashion and it turned out really cool.
He has quad 6060 Hellas, quad halos, and FTL
here is how we did it

this is the untouched control wiring

What we did was treat the second headlight switch like two disconnects

All this switching is done in series.

the first switch (the upper one) turns on the running lights
and in the second (headlights on) position raises the buckets.
The lower, second switch uses the running light position for halos,
and the headlight position for the headlights.
One of the nice things about the set-up is that;
the upper switch is the master.
Flip your headlights off with the upper switch,
everything goes out irregardless of lower switch position

find the three terminal dimmer switch plug under the steering column

two yellow
two green
one tan

Pull the terminal with the yellow wires from the plug.
Cut the terminal off the two yellow wire leaving a short tail as you will reuse it.
Solder the two yellow wires and a third new one together.
Your "headlight motor up" feed now bypasses the dimmer switch.

This third yellow wire you will run up and feed the line side of the second switch

Solder a new wire onto the terminal and replace it back into the plug.
I used yellow, but in hindsight, it is better to use a different color as it is a different wire.

Run the "third yellow wire" to the second headlight switch.
On the connector, tie the orange and red together, solder third yellow wire here.
(a more logical place to grab this switched power is from the yellow wire on the back of the first switch. But I saved a splice by doing it this way.)

The white wire no longer has a purpose.
I bent it over an shrink tubed it.
The brown wire turns on your halos
The yellow feeds your dimmer

There was a thread where we were talking about relay harnesses.
I know the search button is my friend, but........I can't seem to find it.
Anyone remember it's title?
