I am trying to find out what tranny I have connected to my 3800 SC engine. The Donor car was a 97 Park ave ultra with 30k on it. I got the engine, tranny and harness but no axles. I looked at these two threads:

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/123686.html

https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/127100.html

and I tried searching on the web but I can't find what I need. I have located the casting numbers on the tranny but I cant seem to find the data plate. I don't have access to the car either to get the codes from the option list. I guess my question is this:

Assuming the drivetrain is original to the 97 Park Ave Ultra, did this year and model only come with th HD version of this trans, or was the HD introduced in later years?

easiest way, if you don't have the ID Tag, is: Try to slip one of your Fiero AXLES into the passenger side. If it "Fits", it's a reg 6t65, if the Fiero axle is Too Small to fit, the Trans is a HD. The only difference is the "differential carrier" (Mostly the passenger side AXLE Stub.) I'm in the process of rebuilding a HD trans right now.

Thanks but sadly I don't have any loose axles laying around at this time... Where exactly is the tag? Is it visible with the trans attached to engine?

Rear of the transmission near where the differential housing bolts on. Here's a picture of one:

Thanks for the replies. I see the area where the tag is supposed to be but it is missing. I measured the splined shaft coming out of the drivers side and it's about an inch across. The splined hole in the passenger side is about 1 and 1/4 inches. Does this mean it's an HD?
