rodneydickman.com has the best shifter and selector cables. You can call and they will answer all your questions. Not hard to do. If I can do it anyone can.

i dunno about the gt but I was able to replace both of my cables in my se 4 speed fairly easily. it also may not be the same process but I cant imagine it being too much different. you have to take the center console out basically and take off the ECM. then you really just have to detach the cable from the shifter and from the trans

One thing you'll have to do (unless somebody has a way around this) is cut a slit in the grommets that hold the cables and seal the holes in the firewall. When you put them back together you're going to want to glue the grommets back together to get a good seal.

Don't over think this project.
It's not that difficult.
A bit time consuming but not difficult.
There are posts in this forum on how to do it.
But the bottom line is the center console has to be removed as well as the ECU.
The grommet thing is correct and with the heat sleeves and cable ends intact it would be hard to tape the new one and pull it through.
It's easy to thread the new one especially if you have a friend help out.
Adjustment is also written up here in the forum.

Yeah I agree with above in that you're overthinking this quite a bit.

When you remove the center console glove box and shifter surround (and you will have to remove both), you'll have complete access and be able to visually see where both the shift and select cables are routed. It doesn't matter if the cables themselves are not exactly in the same positions because it's the cable inside the sheath that is moving around, not the outside. As long as you connect it properly to both the shifter and on the transmission side (usually the side that takes a bit of work), then routing is not an issue.

When I did this on my Getrag the first time (using Rodney Dickman's cables) this took literally about 40 minutes - most of the time was spent removing the interior pieces and securing the grommets back.

I just wanted to clarify (in case there's any confusion) that the console cover has to come off, but the console skeleton just needs to be disconnected at various locations and pulled up somewhat in order to deal with the cables.
