Hey gang! Proud new owner of a very neglected 87GT V6 5 speed. I'd like to increase ride height on this car by somewhere around 4 inches. This is the start of a process to turn the Fiero into a Mad Max car. There's an event called Wasteland Weekend out in the Mojave desert that I took my DD 'Vette out to and had an absolute blast. This Fiero would be a car dedicated to this event, some mild offroading/rallying, and just looking awesome.

Bullbar, skid plates, and 3800 turbo is all stuff on the list of to do. The engine runs, so I figured I'd start with the suspension. I've seen the Jalepeno lift kit, and that's certainly an option. I don't want to loose the identity of the car, so no ridiculous body kits or truck frame 4x4 swaps. I'm familiar with general vehicle maintenance, however welding and fabrication is new territory. That's half of the point of this car, learn some new skills and build something awesome in the end. The other half is to go around a dirt corner faster than a Subaru while pointing in the wrong direction and on fire.

I bought this car for $600, and I'd like to keep to a scrapyard sort of budget.

So folks, thoughts? Spacers, coilovers, airbag...

Welcome to the Forum! and good luck with the suspension. It's already difficult to get a Fiero aligned.....and it has no straight axles attached to leaf springs to drop down....so you may be getting into a mess of fabrication.....

What kind of terrain exactly? I don't think I'd lift it if I didn't have to and get some grabby tires.

I think there is a video, it did some damage returning to earth.

I plan on putting General Grabber AT2's on the stock 15" GT wheels.

I'm not planning on rock crawling with this thing, but I'd like to be able to get frisky in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOEt_q28lLE

Maybe I am over thinking this. Perhaps some stiffer coilovers and call it good?

That and if you plan on hacking it up you can drop some weight off it to help.

If anything it's going to gain weight haha. The only body panels I plan to hack up is the nose and hood. Honestly I think the GT nose looks awful, and we need to make some room for a steel bumper

Stock suspension with the normal big wheel gap and big tires should do it.

Details on what they did on the PISA Jalapeno kits (4" lift).

I was just measuring up the wheel well, looks like grabber at2's in 205 75r15 or the 225/70's just might fit! Clearing the rear suspension looks like it may be a problem

I too am working on a baja fiero -- mine was so rusted in the trunk I simply removed it....

As far as lifting, I will work that out later. For now, the 4.9 and body mods are taking my time. I do have some 2" spacers to kick the wheels out so I can run larger rims/tires, but haven't decided if I will use them. Wish some one knew a junkyard wheel that would push out the wheel without spacers.

Easiest lift will be bigger tires, please let us know what works for you

Yeah, I'm going to see where bigger tires get me. It will be a tight fit, probably going to do Geolander a/t-s in215/70/r15 or Grabber AT-2 in 225/70/r15

I want the same size all the way around, and to use stock wheels. Both of these tires should bump the car up a bit over and inch.
