Hi all,

I just received my ALDL from Phonedawgz and am having some issues getting my data. I have a 3.4l p/r using the 7170 ECM. I've followed the YouTube videos he has. In TunerPro RT, I can get a good test through the cable, but when I link it up to the car and click the acquire data button, it just keeps trying to connect forever. I'm using the 24.ads file converted to adx and imported. I then went over to WinALDL to see if I had better luck there. When I try WinALDL, it appears to attempt some sort of raw data, but nothing from the sensors. When I unplug my cable, that minimal amount goes away. I appreciate any help or ideas you can throw my way. Here's what I'm looking at:

I had used WinALDL successfully with a couple of different Fieros, but had trouble when I tried to use it with my '88 Formula when I got it a couple years ago. It wasn't until I swapped over the BAUD rate that things started happening. Worth a try for you, as it's a simple change.

Yea, I had switched over to 2400. When I did so, it added a sixth data stream for MPH, and everything was more erratic (and still no sensor info).

It might've been the BAUD rate for the COM Port on my laptop that I changed. Anyway, after changing the BAUD rate somewhere to a value that I didn't think would work... it did.

9 pin Com ports or USB serial and using w/ serial ALDL cable?
Allot of USB and 9 pin Com ports won't work w/ ECM data streams because can't accept non standard bit rates.
Is why many use USB to ALDL cable.

Many ALDL ports get damage from twits trying to see ECM error codes.

I'm using this cable set, which is a 12 pin USB setup: http://www.reddevilriver.com/aldl.html

I tried selecting a variety of different BAUD rates and different settings on the COM port, but none affected the operation.

I have tried using with and without the resistor jumpered, as well as with and then without, or without and then with.

On the disk under USB Direct ADX definitions is 1985 - 88 L44 2.8L V6 Pontiac Fiero $24 $24A.adx. Try that one and see what happens.

If the the cable test comes back as valid in TunerPro RT, then your COM port is set correctly. The baud rate is embedded in the .adx file. That overrides the COM port speed settings for the individual port. So changing that won't make a difference when using TunerPro RT.

You do want to have the resistor (jumper) in place for scanning a 7170 ECM.

TunerPro RT is the program you do want to use for scanning. It is better in so many ways.

I tried the file indicated, but there was no effect. TunerPro still just tries to connect forever.

I guess a new cable is worth a try. I was hoping someone would see the screenshots and tell me I had set something up wrong.
