yes I have one..

I have a pioneer shallow sub

If you are looking to rattle house windows as you drive by, not going to happen.. but it does fill the lower end nicely..

Depends..
if you are good with a router and then covering the face with vinyl without wrinkles, then no.. as it's not that hard to build for someone with the time and Napa knowhow...
as it's just a box with face plate with rounded edges and then covered in matching vinyl..

but if you are not good with building that, or don't have the tool, then yes it is worth it..
for me it was worth it to have it done and match..
I didn't have to hunt for material (vinyl) that matches, didn't have to build the box, then hope I could cover the face and it not be a mess..

Now that I have a router and am much better using it,, I might have tried to make one..
but if I was to make one I'd have built the under dash that hold a 10"

I'm trying to decide whether I want to go with a compact powered sub like the kenwood sw11 that I can put in the passenger foot well or a console box don't really want a ground pounder just want to fill out the bass that's missing

You would probably do fine with the powered self-contianed sub. Ive had my infinity bass link for five years with no problems and great sound. I did buy the btr box for my car though. Im still waiting on the completion of the engine swap before i install the interior i already have. Im sure either way youll be happier with the deeper bass as long as your not trying to shake the ground with it.

If you do this try to put it behind the pass seat.... out of sight..
I haven't really liked most of the lower priced ones as the amp in them are junk, with low end (bass) even at normal volume take a good amount of power to control the driver, and to recover from a music segment that might have a lot of low end..
It depends on what you are after..
I hate muddy low end, I like it tight and crisp.. and why I'll most likely build the under dash box.. down the road.. and put a nice deep cone, long throw 8" in it.. and no port..
only down side to the Balcktop box, is the box size is somewhat small (cabinet) to allow the driver to play the low low end.. but it really added to the range of sound, as the 5.25" fronts and 3.5 in seats don't really play the low end.. at least not without making a cabinet..
My problem with the sub in the console is ever since the Boston Marathon bombing, I've had ringing in my ears.. and the sub being that close to my right ear doesn't help..
Another reason I'll more than likely put it under the dash..
