Hi Everyone,

Lately I've been smelling gasoline in my garage but I don't see a gas leak. My Fiero is a 1987 GT. I did however notice a small coolant leak. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

On my '88 Formula, I noticed a very slight gas leak a couple days ago in the metal tubes that run under the stock battery location to the fuel expansion tank near the passenger side rear fender. I've moved my battery to the front tub, so the original battery area in my Formula is now pretty easy to inspect. I imagine what has happened is that over time, battery acid had worked its way down to these metal tubes (which probably isn't too unusual with '87-'88 Fieros) and proceeded to corrode them.

Thanks for the info. I see rockauto sells the Vapor Canister Filter. So Im guessing the canister can be opened. Would replacing the canister filter fix the gas smell?

First of all, replacing the canister filter will accomplish nothing in regards to a gasoline smell.

And replacing the whole canister will also accomplish nothing if the gas smell/leak is elsewhere.

An 87 Fiero should not have fuel in the charcoal...more likely is rusty lines under the battery.

Something else that hasn't been mentioned is your fuel fill tube could be rusty. I had to cut a section of mine out and replace it with rubber fuel hose. Kinda hard to see since it snakes trough the car. Try to narrow it down to passenger side or driver.
