is it possible to fit the universal v8 180 headers into the fiero that has been stretched for kit car? i have plenty of room between the cockpit and engine. just wonder if there is enough room on the rear side of the engine? i am wondering if i can just buy the universal 180 headers and then install them and have the pipes running from them bent to my liking. if so, what 180 will work? all input appreciated. thanks!
depends on how long you want to be working on it...

well, the subject comes up once or twice a month, the search function does work... and the reality, is that as often as it has been asked, it's only been done once, or twice, one was a N*, the other was a SBC that I don't think was ever completed. most people give up real quick, or realize it costs money to do something like this even half-assed.
The stretch will definitely help in the front, but the rear is tight to the truck wall as well. About 8 years ago I was playing with this concept https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...100421-2-092757.html and picked up a set of schoenfeld 180 headers for a circle track car. I used my SBC car to locate where the front firewall and rear trunk wall were in relation to my SBC swap, but it gives you a good idea of how much extra room you will need:
thanks for the input and i am fully aware of the search function.. as usual the search function did not answer my question and just had several topics that never really answered anything regarding 180 headers in a fiero. that is why i posted the topic. i don't understand why this is such a difficult task and why it has only been done a couple of times. i am wanting to do this to 1 of my gagliardi vendettas to make it sound a bit more interesting. i'm just wondering if the schoenfield 180 will bolt on and then i can have custom pipes welded into them for the exahaust. if so, what schoenfield 180 i should purchase?...are they all the same? there is all kinds of room in the engine compartment. attached is a photo and the nitrous would obviously have to be removed and there is about 18 inches from the engine to the firewall(cockpit).
i want to put them into my this vendetta which is the prototype coupe which ie below..however, i don't have any images of the engine compartment so i put the blue vendetta compartmen pic to give you an idea of the space in there...

thanks fieroguru!! that sinister topic answers my questions. the photos show it all.. they will not fit because of the trunk wall behind the strut towers... the 180 will have to be custom made.. thanks for answering my question!!!
Must say that I envy those that can do a plumbing job like those shown. I take it that this approach is for better exhaust scavenging. The question that I have about 180* headers; is the extra work, cost and noise worth the power gain, or would a turbo prove the less costly, easier more power effective option?

Could have been done more than that and just not posted online or gone to shows. Probably not a difficult task if you are a good fabricator, a good welder, with plenty of time. Or money to pay someone. If its longitudinal you could look at many mid engine setup cars for inspiration. Lots more room.

im not interested in power gain as my vendettas are already pushing 400+ hp.. i want to add them for their exhaust note.

For a better exhaust note you shouldn't have a SBC... Should have just got a Lambo..

Sorry I'm coming in late on this one, didn't see it until today...
In a nutshell... yes, it is possible. If you do in fact have a stretched frame, you won't need to do any trimming on the firewall side. It has been done several times with Lambo replicas. The only modification needed is the shortening of the pipes going into the collectors to clear the driver side shock tower. Trunk removal or modification is also required, which may or may not be acceptable for you. But that's really about it. Then you just get creative on the rest of the exhaust system routing. I'm dumping both collectors into one pipe to save weight and keep the exhaust routing simple. The sound will be even more unique this way as well.
Schoenfeld makes 3 different variations of the same 180 header, each with different diameter primary tubes with either 3" or 3-1/2" collectors. You could use any of them, but I highly recommend using #179-2 with 1-5/8" primary tubes and 3" collectors... you don't want to go too large for the street. Lower RPM scavenging will suffer if you do, which defeats the purpose of using this type of header. Yes there are performance gains, mostly in the mid to upper RPM range. Keep in mind these headers are designed for circle track cars that spend most of their time turning the higher RPMs, so keep your pipe diameters on the smaller side for better streetability and performance.
As far as heat goes, just be thorough with your heat insulation on both sides of the firewall and you'll be fine. Ceramic coating on the headers is also a must.
EDIT: I originally posted the part number wrong, correct number is 179-2. Also edited for clarity.

bad advice from somebody who doesn't know anything about the subject... NO THANKS! seriously, why waste your time making that statement? why waste my time or the other members who have added value to this topic? you have added nothing to this thread.. gm v8's can sound incredible.. the v8 in my blue vendetta sounds amazing and i am wanting to change the stock exhaust note in my black vendetta to something even more unique. i dont want a lambo and i can easily afford 1. cars have been my hobby since childhood.. i like to work on my cars and modify them.. it's not wise to do that type of work on a real lambo because it can lower the resale value... also i have been working on gm products since i was 16 years old.. i own several custom cars all using gm drive train..i own them for the specific purpose of knowing how to work on them... im not going to throw away 20 years of experience/knowledge and buy a real lambo... the learning curve is too steep and i don't even know how to do an oil change.. i love tinkering on all of my cars

Thanks again ITALGT id sure love to get in touch with that guy on the video. id love to have him fab up a chassis and drvie train before dropping a body on to car!
