My wife recently purchased a Subaru BRZ. We intend to upgrade the wheels and tires on it and it appears to me that the BRZ wheels would easily swap to my 1988 Fiero GT. Has anyone here used BRZ wheels on their Fiero? If so, what's involved?

Well, the first step is to find out the bolt pattern and the offset for the wheels that are currently on your Subaru BRZ. According to what I can find with Google, the wheels have the same 5 by 100 bolt pattern as the Fiero, but there offset is + 48.

I will take a look at this reference chart to see how those wheels will fit compared to the stock wheels that are on your Fiero now.

From what I can tell, it should work. Since you are lucky enough to have both cars, I would put one car on jack stands while you swap out one side of the wheels or the other just to see how they fit and watch her clearance looks like once they are installed. I know a lot of people on the forum have Toyota Scion wheels installed, but I am not aware of anyone on the formu that has tried to install Subaru BRZ wheels or Scion FR-S Wheels.

So, get them swapped out and take some pictures and post them in the thread. :-)

Subaru centre bore is 56.1 mm I think, so the Subaru wheels would not be able to slide over the Fiero 57.1 mm hub spigots.

This.

You will need to enlarge the centerbores by 1 mm.
The 48mm offset will be perfect for the front of the 88, but will tend to tuck the wheels under, a bit, in the rear.
You may find some interference on the inside edges, but perhaps not. I think I've seen BRZ wheels on other Fieros, so I could be mistaken.
From what I've heard, if they'll fit on the rear of an earlier car, without interference, the 88 should actually provide a bit more clearance.

I run 2000-2003 16" Subaru Outback wheels on my '88 with 205/50-16 tires. The front wheels come basically to the edge of the fender, but have not had any rubbing issues and am at stock height. The rear wheels set in a slight bit but still clear all control arms, brake cables, etc. It looks pretty good I think...I think a 55 series tire would look better, but that is an odd size. By the way, the wheels are 48mm offset, same as the BRZ has. Yes, you will have to enlarge the bore by 1mm. I used a drill with a sanding drum chucked up and went slowly. My only other caution would be to ensure you have a lug nut that matches the seat taper of the wheel...the Fiero lugnut may not.

I have a set off FRS same car as BRZ I put them on my sisters matrix and some grinding of wheel or caliper was needed to clear.

An easy way to open up the centre hole of a wheel or brake disc is to use an engine cylinder hone tool .To avoid wrecking the hone , I fold over cut pieces of 80 grit sand paper and tape them in place .Keeps as close to perfectly centred as I think is possible . Sand a bit and check until you get them to fit .
