Haven't tried it but consider that more damping action will probably require a unit with a larger cylinder diameter. You don't have a lot of room between the steering damper and the rack so you might be limited by available space. Also more damping action and larger tires, adds more effort to the steering and may change the alignment points.

I put a new steering damper on and could tell no difference from the old one .It is a fairly low stress component and unless it has leaked out all its fluid , replacing it is a total waste of time .On the other hand , your 235 tires will cause a big increase in steering effort over the stock front 205 size .They will follow ruts more and cause more deflection when hitting bumps .One of the reasons most modern cars come with power steering .Next time you need front tires , consider a 215 size with your 235 rears .All 86 and up GT's came from the factory with 205 front 215 rears .
I remove and throw alway the steering dampers on all my cars...from my Fieros to my Mercedes. Its not problem driving without them for me and Im far from being a muscle man. I like the lighter steering.
As previously noted, those tires on the front are probably causing you grief. When I have my 225/50/16 "track" tires on my Formula (on all four corners), I hate the way the car wants to follow the crown of the road and any ruts. However, with 205/55/16 "street" tires on the front, no such issue... the car handles beautifully.
