So I'm wanting to basically install my GPS permanently and would like to hide the wires in the dash. Essentially I need to wire in a second accessory outlet. I've seen the way to wire it direct to the battery but I would prefer to keep it all inside the car. To me it would be fairly easy to just splice into the existing outlet and run a second one to where I want it. The only things that should plugged in would be cell phones and the GPS so I wouldn't that would overload the circuit but I've never done car wiring before so who knows. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Dan

You want to use the extra attachment points on the fuse box marked BAT or IGN.....depending on if you want it hot all the time or just when the key is on. There is no fuse on those ports, so you should include an in-line fuse in your new wiring.

Those ports on the fuse panel are backed up by a fuse, but usually 20 amp, so an inline fuse is still a very good suggestion. GM Connectors are available that just plug into those ports. You may be able to find them at the Pick and Pull- look at luxury vehicles that might have additional accessories. They are also available here ( one for IGN, the other for BAT connections):

You could also tap into the Cigar Lighter Orange line, but the port will be hot all the time. For this type of device, I prefer to use an Ignition Switched line, so it doesn't have the possibility of draining the battery if I don't unplug it.

I mounted a 3-port power/accessory jack to the bottom of my PISA glove box.
Since I eliminated the lighter from the center console, I just wired it to the connectors that fed the lighter.
