That has been my experience too. Races and bearings come in matched sets. I would much prefer to have confidence that I had BOTH new races and new bearings than in the back of my mind wondering if one or the other was going to fail...
Let me add a personal experience to that. I had front wheel bearings fail on a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville while driving on I-40 in 1987. I did get it over onto the shoulder before it failed completely. Still when it went it bent the spindle..
I was able to buy another spindle. I was not able to afford a tow. I still remember having to crawl underneath a 5500+ pound vehicle and swing a hammer removing the old spindle while the weak stock jack creaked and moaned as the 18 wheelers wizzed bye in the Oklahoma wind on I-40.
I would replace the bearings and races together in sets................
