Bottom line.....

Use new bearings and races.

Or use old bearings and races.

Do not mix new and used parts.

When in doubt replace bearings and buy the best you can afford. It's one of those "high consequence" type part failures and definitely something you want to do right with the right parts.
and negs all around.

My friend was starting to drive up North in his Chevy pick up truck years ago and his left front tire started skipping/skidding going down the freeway. The bearings were failing. Locked up and sheared the post right off the knuckle. He said he felt nothing before that to indicate that the bearings were going bad.

That has been my experience too. Races and bearings come in matched sets. I would much prefer to have confidence that I had BOTH new races and new bearings than in the back of my mind wondering if one or the other was going to fail...
Let me add a personal experience to that. I had front wheel bearings fail on a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville while driving on I-40 in 1987. I did get it over onto the shoulder before it failed completely. Still when it went it bent the spindle..
I was able to buy another spindle. I was not able to afford a tow. I still remember having to crawl underneath a 5500+ pound vehicle and swing a hammer removing the old spindle while the weak stock jack creaked and moaned as the 18 wheelers wizzed bye in the Oklahoma wind on I-40.
I would replace the bearings and races together in sets................
