So it begins.
'85 GT

Scenario:
Installed a JVC stereo a week or so ago. All went well. No electrical issues. (Not even sure this is relevant.)
One morning this week on the way to work, I reached over to turn on the running lights (overcast, dark morning), pushed the 'P' switch and "POP", the 20A headlight fuse went.
Got to work, dropped the fold-down fuse panel, replaced with another '20'.
Tried the Headlight switch again - "pop" goes the fuse, left headlight came up, then wouldn't retract.
Installed another fuse and it retracted.

That's where I'm at.
Where to start?
~ Fuse panel?
~ Stereo wiring?

If it were stereo related, I would think there would be a symptom showing in the stereo - power, backlighting, etc. But there's nothing.

Thanks all.

I would look around for a short around the headlight bucket area.

The headlights are powered through a fuseible link at the battery so there is no "headlight" fuse. I assume you mean the 20 amp "TAIL" fuse is the one you replaced. Take a look at the 2 diagrams of the headlight switch details, it shows every item on that circuit. I would start by checking the lighting in and around the radio and center console area and work your way out from there. You may have pinched a wire somewhere and it took a couple days to wear through and short out.

Yup, something is shorting Taillight fuse.

OE Radio is wired to parking lights side of HL switch via a Brown wire and dash dimmer Gray wire.
Aftermarket "Radio" can use either or both. I would start looking at new radio wiring. But If a shop installed this... Get them to fix the problem on their dime.

Headlight bulbs have fusible link B and a breaker in the HL switch.
HL motors use Links B C & D and both sections of HL switch... Up is HL half. Down is Park lights Off and blown fuse stops Down function.

Seagal and theogre,
Thank you for this info.
This is exactly the correlation between the radio and the "tail" circuit (thank you for correcting me) I was looking for.
I did the stereo job myself.
Twice.
Didn't like my choice of connectors the first time so I did it a second time.
Sounds like I gotta go back in and check my work. Specifically the brown wire and gray wire.

May be a couple few days. Got a lot going on.

Thanks fellers.
