Hello. Just an introduction here. This is Ed's GT. I have started this thread in his name because its his car and he doesn't get on the internet much. We are tracking the progress here. Enjoy!
The bumper covers had to be stripped because of the cracks in the clear coat. I ground it off with 80 grit. Then 180 grit.
High Build primer, guide coat and block sanding.
Got new sunroof tracks on the the way from the Fiero store.

Black primer, gold base and HOK Brandywine is an incredible finish...
Still investigating options. Were definitely going with base coat clear coat for simplicity. KBC01 or C2C-KBC01 ( Don't understand the difference) Any experience with that?

That sounds like it'll look delicious. I can find lots fo pics of that color over black, but not over gold. Ironically, I found this thread with that color here

I've seen that thread. That paint is Kandy Apple Red and Brandywine mixed over black. That is a true candy paint job. Not base coat clear coat. I reaqlly like that. Thats what im going to do on my Black 86GT.

I had to redo my headliner also... I have a T-top---- actually, not to mention as well ---- that I have your car combo almost exact T but with the beachwood interior instead.. but same medium red and gold rims.. that first picture was like looking back in time 😏
Anyway, for the headliner, my foam was crumbly in areas so I taped it all back in place..after, I wrapped all the foam with seran wrap because I was afraid that the fiberglass resin would eat the shape of the foam.. and put divots.. like your "finger prints" you say... Did you have any issues working with the resin and the foam?... I know certain glues eat foam also...?
Out of curiosity what type of flex agent needs to added to the paint and clear to avoid the spider web cracking on the poly/flexible body parts?
Interesting thread, I've painted a few of my own and need to address issues with cracking already. Super super disappointed it happened so I'm trying to learn what needs to be done.

Flex additive will make the paint/clear coat more flexible, but it is only temporary and intended only to allow the flexible bumper cover to be installed. The paint will harden over time to normal. I didn't use any on mine and had no trouble but i did sand all he original paint off down to the factory primer.
I got started but had to stop because it rained. To humid, the door skin started to blush on the corner. I fixed it with adhesion promoter. It still needs another coat.
If any one has had experience with blushing please chime in.
Edit: 09/18/2024 The blushing was the the KBC-01 base coat . The humidity was over 60%. Alot of the parts turned gray due to blushing. From what I had already known from furniture finish repair, you need to resoften the lacquer if you get a gray ring or spot due to heat or water. So I ended up spraying the parts in base coat (rear bumper cover and other panels) very lightly with BullDog Adhesion Promoter. You can see it in the next pic. It softened the base coat and the color came back like normal once it had a chance to recure slower.
