I'm doing a repaint on my 88 GT. The windshield was previously installed using butyl tape, which appears to have allowed it to settle too far into the opening in the roof panel. (The windshield trim won't fit correctly) I plan to reinstall it using the urethane adhesive that was done originally. According to the shop manual, there are supposed to be some rubber blocks, called glass stops, that maintain the correct spacing. Does anyone know how thick these blocks should be?? Thanks!!

Around 1/4" from memory. But don't take my work for it.

Since the roof itself is stuck onto the spaceframe with butyl, the height of the roof may vary depending on the final butyl thickness.

When I re-used the spacer blocks that were already there, the top part of the windshield ended up too low. So, before the urethane set, I salvaged the situation by slightly propping up the windshield from the inside to make the outside of the windshield flush with the roof.

You probably need to test-fit the winshield a few times, and adjust the spacer block thicknesses so the windshield lines up correctly in the roof.
Once you're happy with the positioning, then glue the windshield for real.

Windshield "professionals" throw them away.

I had my GT windshield removed so I could do some cleanup work first. I saved all the spacer blocks.
When they came back to install the new windshield I gave him the spacers and he said "we don't use those".

Even before he tried to install the windshield trim I could see he had fukked it up and set the windshield too deep.
I was on the phone to his managers as soon as he drove away.

A week later I took it to their shop so their guy who works on "special cars" put in another new windshield.

It took a different shop 3 windshields before they got it right on my Indy.
