Has anyone ever tried using this type of adapter to connect to your OBD2 scan tool? I purchased this one on ebay for around $8 and tried it out but didn't seem to work after plugging it in at the ALDL port (it flashed on for a hot second then no screen at all)...

I don't know if the ALDL connector can provide power out to that device.

98+% OBD2 scanners will Not work on OBD1 systems even if you find "Adapters." Worse can wreck the scanner and/or ECM trying that.
Very few if any "Pro Grade" OBD2 scanners might read OBD1 data.

Very few OBD1 scanners are "Universal" and read some to many car makers because ALDL plugs and more aren't standard across brands.
Old Snap-on and other High $ OBD1 scanners does this often w/ High $ "modules" to program them. Worse often need several "modules" to work w/ 1 brand of vehicles.

Is why many OBD1 scanners only fit one brand of vehicle.
So GM scanner won't work for Ford and others.

It looks like you tried to use an OBD2 scan tool on the ECM w C3 interface or in a stretch called OBD1. They have two entirely different data streams. I don't even know why they made those OBD1 to OBD2 adapters. They will not work.

Thank you for the replies everyone.. and thanks for the link Lambo - I may give that one a try. For now I'm gonna just try reading the flashes using the jumper procedure and see what codes it throws.
