I found a fan switch while going through some stuff, but I'm not sure what temp this one is. It looks new (kind of), so maybe I got it from Rodney. Is there a way to test it? There's a number stamped on it, but I couldn't find anything online.

All it does is ground the circuit at whatever temperature it's designed to do so. Stick the probe end in water being brought to a boil, and using a thermometer and a multimeter, see what temp the circuit completes.

The problem is water boils at 212F and the factory switch closes at 235F
(higher temp possible because closed cooling system under pressure)

If it's Rodney's closed at 210F switch, you could get away with it.

Good point. I was going with the assumption (possibly erroneous!) that no one would have a new factory fan switch kicking around, and therefore it might conceivably be one of Rodney's lower temp units.

I had used an ohm meter and was getting an open reading, but I guess that's what it should be reading when cold. So just an on or off, that makes sense.
So I'll need to get a thermometer that goes higher than 160F.

Make sure is really a Fan Switch...
Many confuse w/ other senders/sensors especially old type ECT for ECM that Doesn't Ground to case and read "Open" tested for that. But Will get ohms between "pins." see cave ECM section.

New style ECT use newer Metripack connector and plug looks way different but only 87-88 duke and maybe 88 V6 came w/ it as factory install. Others have them because can't get old type to replace "dead" units.
