What is this and where should it be? I took the outer skin off the passenger door and this fell out.

I thought it might be the "lock cylinder retainer" but the retainer remains steadfastly retaining the lock cylinder.

I vaguely remember seeing this whatever-it-is over a decade ago when I had a Fiero door apart but don't recall where it's supposed to be or what it's supposed to do.

I think that is the original lock cylinder retainer.
At some point a previous owner changed out the lock cylinder, dropped the original one down inside the door and didn’t try hard enough to fish it out. Maybe his lock replacement came with
the clip? This is why I love my magnetic retriever antenna thingy. Comes in handy for retrieving nuts, bolts, washers, etc from hard to reach places. A tool worth its weight in gold. 😀

I'll "tack" the outer skin back in place today (including the latch and lock linkages) to make sure everything works before final reassembly of the door.

I'm a little concerned what appears to be the lock retainer in place (see image, although the only part of the retainer visible is the turned-up lip) looks different from the flat mysterious thingie, which has a hole and not a lip.

But, you know, if everything works when the door's done - this all came about due to replacing dew wipes - I'll not worry about it.

Looks like a standard shim for the hinge. Also used to shim fenders or control arms

I was thinking shim. I believe the door was part of a Fiero Factory rebuild in 2006 after I totaled the car and bought the carcass back from the insurance company. Who knows the door's history.

In any case, I'll put everything together this afternoon. Maybe keep the shim as a souvenir.
