About my car 1986 Fiero GT 2.8 L with manual transmission. Can someone please help me figure out what is missing from this metal pipe. It’s approximately 1/2” dis. metal pipe that runs from middle of car toward driver side. It transitions from a metal pipe at the engine to rubber hose and runs forward. Appears to be a coolant line of some type. Take a look at photos to let me know all think. It’s relocated right below the wiring harness.

That's part of the GM recall. It is abandoned during that recall and does nothing.

Check the other end which goes to the air cleaner and if it is not disconnected there, put a cap on that open end so dirty air doesn't get sucked into your engine.

What was its intended purpose? I don’t think it’s been disconnected from air filter. I will cap it as suggested. I’ll also look to remove the pipe all together. Again, thank you so much! Love the folks on this site.

My dealer only installed a rubber cap on the right end of the metal pipe.

So, I removed the rubber hose from the air cleaner housing to the metal pipe; then installed rubber caps on the left of the metal pipe and the air cleaner housing.

Clearly, the air cleaner housing is the main focus; caps on the metal pipe are merely superficial than open ends.

What was its intended purpose?

Air Cleaner Housing to Engine Crankcase Vent which REMOVED and a NEW Engine Crankcase Vent tube (Part 10) to the NEW Air Intake (Part 13) at the Throttle Body.

See ILLUSTRATION I - AIR INLET (85-86) in the link below

No, another metal pipe is welded on the same pipe we're talking about which you cannot separate easily.

Remove your air cleaner cover and the housing can remove from the base to inspect if you have a hose or a cap on the port...

Instead of needing to rehash this over and over, there needs to be a "sticky" for us to refer to when this question gets asked here every few months.

The worse thing about that pipe, is that if it hasn't been capped at one end or the other, dirty air from the engine bay has been sucked into the filtered side of the air filter canister for years, probably for decades.
