Hello

I have a 1987 SE 5-speed V6

On my way home today I noticed the service engine soon light come on

Just yesterday I had changed my engine oil at the distance of 5,000km

I dont have an owners manual and google doesn't seem to understand what I'm asking it so I was wondering if this light is a reminder to change your oil or if it was warning me of somthing about to fail like a check engine light

Only had my car for about 2 months and this is the second oil change it's gotten, 1 when I bought it and 1 yesterday.

If it is just reminding me to do an oil change how to I get it to turn off?

Thanks

Welcome aboard!

It is NOT an oil change reminder. Is it still on?

You should check the ALDL codes and get back to us.

Yes it's still on. Stays on solid after starting the car. I will follow your instructions and get back to you with the code

Thanks

There are several ways (all documented here) to check the continuity of the windings in the TPS. If the TPS itself checks out, then the harness and/or connector could be suspect.

If you downloaded the PDF of the 87 Service Manual, TPS diagnostics are on pages 6E3-A-32 to 35.
All you need is a digital voltmeter.

To clear codes from the ECM disconnect power to the computer.
You can pull TOP LEFT fuse, or disconnect/reconnect power connector near the battery.
