I am considering lowering my car slightly and while in there I may as well replace the dampers (shock absorbers). Looking at sources on the net, I see a lot of KYB and Monroe items for sale along with a few other (more expensive) offerings.

Can anyone comment on their experiences with any aftermarket brands on their 1988 GTs?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

This topic has really been beat to death over the years. Running a search here for '88 shocks and/or '88 struts brings up a lot of reading material.

My Formula (same suspension as GT) rides on KYB. Stiffer jounce and rebound than Monroe.
Monroe gives a bit smoother ride.

Both are good.

Joe, that wasn't my experience (with either the struts or the shocks, I forget which) when I compared the two brands years ago. My more detailed posts on the topic will show up in those two links I provided above.
