I am going through the process of installing a stock subwoofer system I got on ebay into my Indy. For the amplifier, does it just sit behind the carpet and plastic on the passenger side of the tunnel, or is there some kind of mounting bracket that I am missing?

I don't know how helpful this will be, but I installed the subwoofer (with the replacement Rodney Dickman speaker) in my Fiero over a decade ago, and took a bunch of pictures at the time. You can see what it looks like with the dash removed (note: you do not need to remove the dash to install it):

Bottom line, it doesn't affect the carpet. The carpet stays where it is, and it mounts under the dashboard just above the passenger side foot-well (where the "dead pedal" would be). There are a few components... you have the subwoofer box with tube. There's also the bracket / factory amplifier that sits on the passenger side of the center tunnel (under the carpet), and the PERFORMANCE SOUND boost slider that mounts in the overhead console. Finally... of course there is also the wiring harness...

This is from another thread. The area that is circled in red is where the stock amp mounts.

I got the sub box in no problems, other then putting in the tang band woofer which was an adventure on its own. But for the amplifier (circled in green), does it just sit there, or would it normally be fastened to something?

LOL, sorry... I missed the part where you said "amplifier."

Yeah, the FACTORY amplifier should slide into a bracket that's part of the panel that goes UNDERNEATH the carpet. I had an 87, and the bracket already had the slot for it... it just slipped in and fixed with a screw. What year car do you have? I can't remember (to be honest), if every Fiero 86+ came with the same bracket or not... but I know the 84s did not, and possibly the 85s as well. You may need to get the bracket as well, but honestly... I just remember it sitting in there.
