Hi everyone,

I am having a problem where I drive my car around for a long time. I park my car, turn it off, and try to restart, it cranks and engine sounds like it starts up but dies. I wait for 10-25 minutes and starts up just fine, could this be an overheating issue?? I have had this problem for a while now.

FYI:
I fixed one of the problems yesterday (changed out the tbs sensor) car idles good now. I’m able to put it in park without it dying. And the fault went away. I thank everyone that helped me out on here with that.

Could be a defective ICM. After you have driven your car for a while, the engine will heat up quite a bit after you shut off the engine since coolant will no longer be flowing. ICM's (especially the cheaper ones) are notorious for failing when they get too hot.

Any number of things can/will overheat & die indeterminately or permanently.

Iffy wiring, ECM, ICM, to ignition coil & other dumb items.

pull the tach filter
see https://web.archive.org/web...t/~fierocave/hei.htm

&/or...

remove the console so ECM gets a lot of air to cool. If helps, ECM is "dead."
see https://web.archive.org/web...ierocave/ecmheat.htm

clean/fix all ground in the engine bay
