Hey Fiero guys and gals, I've got an idea....

What if I swapped in both the Grand Prix 3800SC motor, AND the dash?

Crazy, right? Really it doesn't seem too nuts but I've only seen one example of a Grand Prix dash being swapped into a Fiero and it wasn't clear if it was ever actually finished.

This one will definitely be back on the road this year. I'm in the middle of the dash swap now.

My current consideration is replacing the majority of the Fiero wiring with harness(s) out of the Grand Prix.

I'm kinda familiar with Fiero wiring, but the Grand Prix stuff is all new to me. Maybe I can pull most the Fiero wiring out and the Grand Prix stuff will go nicely in its place? Too much to ask?

You will need the BCM to get several of the dash functions to work......

If you look at pictures of the 1990 Fiero prototype the dash really modernizes the appearance. I believe that GM used the Firebird gauge console on that car. IMO, that would not require more electronics.

Firstly, the 1990 Fiero prototype gauge cluster made using injection-molded parts.

Then, the Fiero program was scrapped.

Then, the 1990 Fiero prototype injection mold tooling was taken out of mothballs and used for Firebird production.

My point is that you can find that dash gauge console on early 90's Firebirds. I've seen it used on Fieros. How it became about is just GM history.

Thanks! I wouldn't have thought of that. It may also control stuff like the power locks? Maybe I'll be able to use the Grand Prix factory key fob.

Use this for your wiring needs.

I did try my hand at a swapping in a Firebird cluster to make a pseudo-1990 gauge cluster, I just wish I was better at fiberglass. I ended up taking it out. May try again sometime if I can do something better.

I'd like to see a writeup on this. It looks very nice.
