Hey peeps. Been driving the fiero all summer, and last week I noticed a clunking happening fairly consistently. It mostly happens in first gear. Accelerating the clunk doesn't happen, but when I take my foot off the gas pedal to shift or coast, theres a loud clunk in the back. It sounds like it's in the lower right side. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but it usually does. It shouldn't be motor mounts or dog bone, I replaced those and I'm 99% sure they're still good. I haven't done the cradle bushings, but I imagine that should have a clunk noise when accelerating too if it were them, right?

Also, all the replacement options for the cv axles show 33 outer spline, and 34 inner. But a few forum posts have said it's 33 outer, but only 32 inner? I have an 86 4 speed V6. Thanks all.

All Fiero manual transmission axles are the same, side to side.

Could it possibly be something real simple, like a loose brake caliper? It happened to me.... One bolt came out and the other one loosened just enough to let the caliper rock back and forth every time I accelerated or stepped on the brake. It was quite a loud clunk though.

Check the torque shock to cradle bolts at the front of the engine near the oil filter. That was the source of my clunk. One of the bolts had dropped out and another was loose.

My rear (trunk side) tranny mount was separated. If I was going slow (like in traffic) it made a clunk, every time I got off the gas.
