Hi folks, I am new to this forum. I lust purchased a '85 GT notchback with what I believe is a Cars and Concepts T-Roof. The seller did not have a key, and the tops are locked on.

Does C and C still exist and could they provide a key?

OR: Should I call a locksmith to pick the lock?


OR: will I have to break or drill out the lock and hope I don't ruin the latch?

First, welcome to the forum!!!

C&C no longer exists, as far as I'm aware. I've not seen C&C t-tops on a newer car in over 30 years.

The TTOPs are an easy lock to pick. If you want to try it yourself, you can buy a lock pick set on Amazon and watch a couple of videos, and you should be able to break them. First spray in some WD-40 first to clean it out, and then some graphite spray.

Otherwise, if you don't want to try it yourself... definitely call a locksmith. The locks are probably not custom made, and they can probably order new replacements with new keys, and the locksmith will be able to get them.


Finally... T-TOPS on Fieros are a pretty rare option... and it's awesome that you have one on an 85 GT (never actually seen a set on an 85 GT).

Whatever you do... don't let that car end up in the junkyard. If you decide you can't fix up the car, etc... not worth your trouble... advertise it on here!

I found that the key to my camper cap on my truck operated my T-top locks perfectly.
Most any locksmith should be able to find a key that would work. (NOT talking about just the blank. One with the right cuts.) They're the same as many office furniture and other common locks.
Look at your locks. There might even be a code stamped in the face of it.

The key to my riding mower looked the same as the key for my John Deer subcompact tractor. It works very well. I keep all unidentified keys that I have. At times they saved my butt, or I could use a padlock of which I had lost the keys.

Picking a lock can be really easy. I have a GT T Top. I always wondered why they put a lock on it.
