I found am M17 4 speed muncie from an 86 fiero for $150...comes with 90% of the parts needed to manual swap a car. I have the option of buying a manual fiero, but my current fiero is my money pit and i have put a lot of work in. And mine is low miles in good condition, i don't see many manual v6s like that.
that being said. The transmission has 190k miles on it...I'm willing to risk it for $150. My plan is to go through it and check everything...synchros, gears, shafts, just everything. I am relatively new to transmission work..I am having trouble finding any M17 parts anywhere. at all. Is there a way to refurbish a transmission? Like how you can hone cylinder heads and replace piston rings but for transmissions. I want to get it closer to new, at least.
I know some MY8 gears can fit in the M17, but those are even harder to find. What options do I have for sourcing new parts? Does it matter that the gear is from a different transmission or not?
Also side note. $150 sounds unbelievable but this guy has a couple fieros and is planning on 3800 swapping one. We talked enough that I do trust he believes the transmission is ok. He said in the listing he is parting it out for cheap.
