So I had to replace the tcc solenoid in my 88 I4 3 speed and I totally blanked out and didn't mark which trans cooler line went where. I've read that it pretty much didn't matter which doesn't seem right to me, but I also don't know jack about transmissions.

I tried to find this answer here and on other places, but didn't quite find a satisfactory answer other than common practice is to put the line from the top of the radiator to the top of where the cooler lines bolt in on the transmission and vice versa.

So that's what I did. Top of radiator to top hole, bottom of radiator to bottom hole.

I haven't run it much yet because I figured I'd do a drain and fill of the atf since I had to take the side cover off, but when I took the drain pan off I noticed the magnet was missing so I have one coming.

I've only ran it to see if the tcc would cause it to stall on start like it did before, it didn't, and to see if the side cover had any obvious leaks before we had to reinstall the trans mount. That was such a PIA to take out. Don't know how you guys swap engines for fun, I'd be crying.

Telling you guys I ran it just in case that was dumb, but I didn't think it would hurt anything if it was routed backwards from what I've read, but if they have a something to prevent backflow, that I don't know about, I can see that going wrong real fast.

The only thing that matters (and I don't know why) is that you maintain that line "loop" just before it goes into the transmission. I have no idea why that is, but I was actually watching a YouTube video a few days ago that went into great detail. I doubt it makes a huge difference... but it was something they seemed to say was important.

"Loop" as in the upwards angle that the bracket holds the longer line by before going back down to the transmission?

Yes, from what I understand though, this is supposed to actually loop around. See this picture... I circled it in yellow, but you can barely see it, it's behind everything:

I don't want to give wrong information, but apparently there's some reason why it's supposed to be looped like that, I have no clue... but I remember many years ago when I still had an automatic, everyone was telling me to make sure I kept it like that, and I literally just saw a video two weeks ago that explained it, but I was completely not paying attention, haha...
