A CV joint boot rips when the back wheels spin under power when they lift off the ground. Best fix is to replace with a new boot. The handicap for using the split boot as a repair is that they use adhesive to keep the boot together. The CV boost location is loaded with grease and if even a small amount gets on the new boot new seam it will completely fail.
