Finally got to pulling the car out and doing a little work. Fired right up and everything working. Good thing I labeled the switches lol. The hood scoops scoop didnt have a nice edge where it touched the hood vent. The voices said to elongate the front and taper in the sides. Worked out good Just need to finish that up, did a lil work on finishing the roof scoop also. . Got on my cuz to finish the upper wing of the rear spoiler, hopefully that gets done soon. One of my customers has a print shop, and hes making decals for my hood emblems. Didnt know what to put on them, so I went w the family crest. Burned thru a ton of projects so the car will be getting love again soon.
Almost done w my beater trucks paint job, got a new front bumper, lower valence that I added a lip and lights to, and put a 4runner grille on it Figured out my issue w my devilbiss paint guns lol, theyre junk. Watched a youtube video of a pro trying to use them and out of the box and after several cleanings, even he couldnt get them to spray good. So I got a new gun, the new hf "black widow" hte gun. This things bad arse! Lays down pant like butter perfectly wow luv it!
Painted my wifes friends destroyed honda. No joke 3/8" of bondo on the drivers door There musta been 3 cans of bondo on that door, last goober didnt even try to pull the dents out. In 15 mins I had the door pulled out where it only needed an1/8 of mud lol. Did this and my truck in the duplicolor lacquer they sell at kragens. Nice paint dries quick. Dont bother w the lacquer clear tho. I had just shot 2 coats of clear on this car when my cuz came over. First words out of his mouth," whens the clear going on?" Itll be getting a urethane clear on top. Came out perfect tho
And I knocked off a bucket list item, an arcade machine. Didnt want one w one game and always wanted to build my own. Was in a best buy and saw the arcade 1up machines and they look lame! Got this konami box from cl for$200 Got a 22" monitor, some usb encoders, and the buttons/sticks, loaded all my goodies on an old asus laptop, made a mount for the screen and controls, swapped the front doors over and 6300something arcade games on mame(1400 not working, 8k total) every american and japanese console game for the nes, snes, n64, master system, genesis, segacd, turbografix16, neo geo, and probably more on their own loaders.
Concrete pad for the new garage/shop going in friday hopefully!
I never give up, just get sidetracked! Im a dad and works picked up bigtime. Havent really done much on the car, told myself id get the dmv stuff done before any more work. I got my dmv guy to speak to the manager of the local dmv and she doesnt know anything about it. Called the smog ref, they were very helpful but need that certificate to start the exemption process. May have to drive to dmv headquarters and do it myself.
Got my side emblems made, a new tail light, and fixed up a buncha small leaks on the air ride. The engine belt would squeal sometimes, especially when revved, so today I moved the tensioner over to the udder side like I did w my other motor.
Got a 74" belt and fired it up, no squeal at all. Even backed into my garage and came screaming out into the driveway in 1st and no slippage. Locked up the front tho lol. Then I trimmed up the hood scoop scoop and cut the holes for the vent screens
Cuz welded the upper spoiler but its a bit short. Painted my beater again and got decals Picked out indigo blue for the color. A beautiful dark blue w just a tinge of purple. That chits purple, I really didnt want a purple truck fock! It gets tons of compliments tho. When I ask people what color it is they all say blue wtf?!
Neighbor 2 doors down got her boyfriend to move in from east coast. Very cool cat and into old cars. Took our rides out for a cruise
Crazy cart xl are all sold out, and I wouldnt pay a grand anyways- so I built my own called the silly cart. Made it from a pocket rocket so the fork assy only lets you drift up to 90 degrees. Another in the works from a scooter w 360 rotation. Ill make a post in ot about it because this is something everyone needs to have and at least try. The guys at taxi garage sell them if you wanna pay 3k for a custom one. The deere one on their website looks awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81HfOW9TLI0&t=552s
Made mine w the fairing and seat from the bike and was going to put the old fubabbi wheel on. My cuz had this old yacht steering wheel he was going to toss ages ago, I kept it and put it on because it looks hilarious, out of place, and makes you feel like your driving a school bus lol. Got a free skateboard and wheels and modified some casters to fit the wheels. Used an old section of 3/4 gas pipe from a job, an exhaust coupling, a pvc spacer, and a broken off post hole digger handle for the drift bar. made the frame from emt and covered it in some diamond plate. 36v battery, controller, and pedal, and off to the races. Guaranteed smiles and fun for hours!
Im back jack! Had a plan all set for the new year to get the dmv stuff done and it all went to chit fast. So I tried it solo again. Dude at dmv had no idea what I was talking about, after the 15th time of me telling him he had to call sacramento- he finally did. Got me going and even got a connection in sacramento. They need the vin verification to read differently. Went back to chp and that guys not there and the new guy wants me to bring the car back. Motor was kinda picked apart for testing on yellow, but fired right up like it was yesterday. Cuz welded on some extensions I made for the upper wing, cut em square w the chop saw, and fits like a glove!
Got a used ferrari tailight and swapped that out, got an extra pcm from ryan at sinister, and still have to change that broken drivers door handle. I trapped myself in the car without a screwdriver the udder day. Still undecided on color, I like the dull gray. Dont want red, I have a cherry cherry red fiero.
Found a set o wheels thatll set it off good. But thats after dmv and after paint, must tease my self for motivation lol.
Nah not a fan of black on this car or diggin the frooty colors they put on supacars now. I dunno, default is red again I guess gosh. 2 more mountains to climb, and I dont wanna do either! Get the car trailer, get the car, drive to chp in san jose, drop off the car, drop off the trailer. And the trailers about an hour round trip each time, gonna be a long day. Then the airbag situation. I knew I welded the fronts up good and it was gonna be a biotch of epic proportion to remove everything just to see if the new stuff would work and the car would be stuck in the driveway. Well I went at it today and I was surprised, it WAS an biotch of epic proportion to get em out. And hot today too, I was cookin. The front bottoms of the bags slip over the hump in the control arm and bolt up from underneef, but theres nothing to attach the top too. I wound up reusing the mounts I made and bolted em up like that and welded the bracket back in. Heres almost finished pics! The plethora of tools
The rears were easy 10 mins w my cordless impact
The plan was to use the existing manifold but its a 3/8 system and the bags are 1/4 and I woulda needed a buncha adapters or some hokey couplings. So I just ran all new lines and used the new manifold. Forgot pics It was hot! Only had to go to hd for a reducer bushing and adapted the filter outlet to the new mani. All ptc very nice, not swingin a wrench for an hour. This one only has wireless remotes which I dont like but they work.
All rise Dumpage
It was a long day but its together and working and the front swaybar fits now. Definitely going to be some fine tuning involved to dial it in, still need to pull the gauge cluster from yellow and swap the bag gauges out. The new ones are electric and have sensors in the mani, and the olds I had to run tubing. Still gonna hafta run one for tank air. Im pooped, one hamstrings hurtin and my lower back has FU on autorepeat.
Now I need to get off me arse n get a trailer........
Not much pic or post worthy, just working on minor details here and there. Got a few more air leaks buttoned up, new compressor solenoids wired in and connected to a pressure switch and a switch on the dash. 2 more gauges to connect, had to reset the remote for the air ride, and working on driver feel. Really needs the seats to sit lower. With me seated all the way back, im looking at myself in the wink mirror lol. That may hafta go. Also seeing out of those little dinky vitaloni mirrors is going to be a joke. I cant even back into the garage w those. I drive a truck I gotta see got dayumit! Also not looking forward to more fiberglass work, so I ordered paint today for a lil motorvation. Nardo grey this time lol. We shall see, runnin outta little details to finish up.
Then I had the bright idea to hire a tow truck to take the car to chp for the vin verification lol duh. Lined a guy up and asked chp for something the week of the 11th, and the guy says their next appt is sept 23rd. Well fock lol. Declined and told the tow gut id shop around for a sooner time. Chp nearest to me wont call back or answer, and the independent verifiers cant do kit and salvage rides. Resigned to my fate I called chp back to take that appt. Another guy answered and gave me an appt for 8/12 lol. All set up to wrap this chit up!
Paints here, been jammin on tiny details n piddly chits. Making a punch list as I go, air ride holds air for 3+ days now, got a bad fitting on one corner. Mounted the compass, side door trims, mounted all the switchplates, finished up wiring in the extra boost and voltmeter, went thru so many lil details im starting to run outta things to nit pick on. Working on the stereo lol. Made some speaker pods for a component kit I got ages ago, pulled out the old sub for the amp, put the antenna in the ds door pillar. Drilled and tapped the rear upper wing and made a new center support. Went thru the suspension and made sure everythings tight and all cotter pins were in, go a bad balljoint. Got a new one but it has neither a locknut or a hole for a cotter pin, so im getting another on from rockauto. Put loom on a buncha wires and clamped em down. Pcm needs a case learn but a buddy has the tool for it. more to come
Thank you Mr Sage, slowly but surely getting there. Very slowly! Took it down to chp for the vin inspection before I got swamped w a ton of work. Hired a guy w a trailer that does it for a living, easy peasy. Got it signed off then emailed a copy to the special dmv unit. Got a lil attitude n some runaround just to find out I now need a brake and light inspection. So I had to tackle the ebrake, it always gave me crap and I could never figure it out years ago. I put new rear calipers on sometime ago, and left it at that. Read up on some ebrake threads, got nothin lol. All I got was remove the whole lever, and hold the brake pedal and pull and it should self tighten. I put the cables in the calipers and set the springs, then saw I needed the clip that holds the big cable to the right side. Remembered I have a loaded cradle, one was there. Got that all together and pulled the ebrake, someone dripped fiberglass and the buttons glued to the handle lol. Looks like its been there a long time. Remembered I got a newish ebrake from a guy thrown in w some udder parts I was getting. Installed it, adjusted the equalizer thingie until the bolt holes lined up for the ebrake, bolted it in, put one hand on the brake pedal and pulled w my other hand. Click click click click. No way couldnt be that easy. Tried to move the car, chits locked up tight. Then I went thru some hassle but the turn signals and hazards all work now, minus one side marker that needs to be swapped out. Doing the high beams to a switch, cant find the switched high beam wire from the signal harness. Gotta check the wipers too, was fiddlin around and the horn went off n spooked me good while I was working in the footwell. I didnt even think I hooked that up lmao, got me good.
The little door speaker pod turned into a door panel idear, gonna be something like this. Its too fat in the rear and hits the spring cover for the seat even after I trimmed it. Prolly gonna foam n glass it sometime in the near future, def looking forward to hearing some tunes. Dug out an old amp to power the sub. Super nintendo was in the same box so I started playing mario world w the kid. Hes already over it but loves fishing now. The punch/detail list is long, and constantly getting added/subtracted to. Shakedown cruise in the near future
Some of the work I got was swapping out the front harness and headlight motors on an 86 to the later style. That evolved into some other things, then onto the 58 220 convertible Installing outside trim(had to drill holes ouch), and reinstalling the interior.
Then the 37 ford Hood adjustment (PITA), install gauges, redid the bed boards in red oak and lotsa coats of old school lacquer. He loved it
