It is definatly stronger. I use brass inserts with machined screws for all the screws so no wood type screws directly into plastic. Also it is modular so if you need to do maintenance with the shifter area no need to pull the stereo apart or just stereo area needs help no reason to pull every thing else out. I have dropped one and no breakage but i dont suggest you to take a hammer to it.
