I believe that your best result would come from purchasing a 2.8L or 3.4L P/R long block from a reputable engine rebuilder and having it shipped. When you buy used you never know what you will get. A friend of mine (Marty K) was customizing/rebuilding/restoring a Chevy II and had purchased a "good" used SBC from a guy on Craigs list for $500. It turned out it wasn't so good, He installed it and the engine seized on him the next day. The seller said that he would make good then moved and suddenly disappeared.
