....for something she wasn't involved with. Society and the school system is really screwed up. My daughter, as well as other kids in her class has to write an apology letter to a substitute teacher for the antics of five other kids. Really? When did it happen? Ya know.......being punished for others stupid decisions. Five other kids were misbehaving/fighting/fussing with each other and the Sub let the teacher know what and who did what and my kid WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. Now ALL kids have to write a apology letter to the Sub for their actions. What actions did my kid and the others do besides sit and watch the five get disruptive? NOTHING! And she wants an apology from ALL of them...........it ain't happening. Going to talk to her teacher in the morning and maybe the Principal as well, but my daughter WILL NOT be apologizing for something she didn't to or was involved with.
Goin' to take a shower and cool off a bit. TMI, I know.

My daughter told me that she is the last one to write this letter. The rest wrote one today, some during class and some the night before. It needs to be done by tomorrow. I guess she'll be one short . Did you catch it when I said some wrote these letters during class ? That's right. Time was spent doing something this ignorant instead of class work . Public education. Working on getting her out of the district she's in anyway. Maybe move and or enroll her out of district if possible.
Oh, and they can't bring any snacks for/at recess time for the whole week. Really?

2 thoughts.
1. Just have her write the letter. It will be good practice for her penmanship and writing skills.
2. Tell her not to write a letter. She'll get flack. You'll end up speaking with the principle. You'll "martyr" yourself, in your mind. She has the embarrassment and all the actual flack. This is speaking as a 30 year old man whose mother made a stand over a $3.50 agenda book. Obviously she won. I didn't though.
EDIT
If she wants to take up this fight herself and doesn't care about the repercussions, back her. I personally would suggest she write a letter saying the she was sorry that she had to write one for the actions of others.

Oh, believe me. I do back my child and always will. If she's wrong she will take the punishment not only from the school, but from me too. She was not included with the others that were outa line.
You got in before the edit. I did learn to stand up for myself. Not at my mother's silly campaign. I learned it by standing up to the person who was the most un-flexible person I've know. She still won't flex. She has her life. I have mine. Neither of us want hers.
I am so sorry for the situation that occurred the other day. I, and 90% of the class felt so bad for you due to the actions of a few. I can only hope that someone steps up and makes things right by you by punishing those that did wrong that day.
Best Wishes, Daughter
Duty fulfilled, point made. Can't beat that with a stick.

Do you not think catching children at a young age to stand up for what's write? My point being is that if kids apologize for things they don't do so at some point they will just say "screw it, it ain't worth doin' the right thing if I still get into trouble".

That is almost exactly what I was thinking, but I just can't get past sayin' "sorry" for something I/he/she had nothing to do with.
Facta velim condiscipulis purus. Et actus et non remittere non participat actionem. Vellem tamen satisfacere pro inique et. Neque enim est spiritus in litteris accespt datum. Illegitimi non carborundum

I can't translate.

I would like to apologize for the actions of my class mates. Even though I didn't participate I do not condone their actions and would like to express my apologize on their behalf. Don't let the bastards grind you down
Sorry. Hopefully she'd learned a lesson from this. I know I have.
Sincerely,

It's good. It's good. I might go with a more exact percentage like 90.26% to push the point.
You can see I am not real good at this stuff but I agree that it can be written from the standpoint of apologizing for the real troublemakers. We do that even as adults ("Sorry, he's drunk.")

Like others have said, make it "Sorry those idiots made trouble. Sorry you can't keep order in your classroom. Sorry you can't deal with your job. Sorry you chose teaching, when you're plainly NOT suited for it. Sorry the school hired an unqualified person".
I know I can't deal with that job. Turn this 'punishment' into a teachable moment. For the school.
This would work better if you added a bit to the last sentence.

Close enough I didnt save the origanal.

When I was in the military when one recruit screwed up, all the platoon suffered the same fate. Talk about peer pressure to keep the screw up in line. That worked quite well in keeping trouble makers aware of not to screw up a second time.

Unfortunately that is called bullying in school now...

I'm sorry that you as a teacher are so incompetent that you're incapable of handling 5 kids who act up during class I'm also sorry that I'm growing up in a society that punishes people for things they didn't do by making them write pointless letters of apology. I'm sorry your generation is totally screwing things up for us kids who have to grow up to fix your stupidity.

"I would NOT like to apologize fr the actions of others, and I am not the least bit sorry for something I did not do. If you have a problem with them, then go talk to them not me"
Signed Daughter
(yeh, I know, that probably wont go over too well)
I am here! I like some of the suggestions above about fulfilling the obligation without actually apologizing for anything. As a teacher, I would accept pretty much anything from the kids that I knew were not involved and expect nothing but a full apology from those that were actually guilty.

I like this idea. I would impress upon her that she should not apologize for anything she didn't do. That is admitting to doing something she didn't do. Apologize for having to witness the actions. Say she's sorry it happened, but at not time say she's sorry for doing something wrong.

This reeks of one of those doomed to repeat history lessons. In WW2 the Nazi's would teach the Hitler youth to even report their parents and anyone else who did not fall in line of the masses. Once screwed up the whole town would feel it.
Not exactly the same but has that feel to it.
Punish all for the actions of the few.
let the playground flogging commence.

Just wondering, what grade is your daughter in. Intimidation can appear worse for the younger ones. Had a few [intimidation] instances with mine years ago.
