Im good friends with the owners of Columbus Custom Coach, now a part of Farber Specialty Vehicles. They used to do all the stars and bands coaches. They dont do much any more because the celebrities all LEASE them now so they dont have to deal with selling them later. They just lease one they like ready to go, or have one built for themself and lease it. They pretty much just make custom vehicles for bloodmobiles, mammograms, bookmobiles, mobile police stations, FBI, recruiters, etc. They generally use Provost chassis too, unless the buyer prefers something else.

Find an older Blue Bird. Check with your school district. They can send you in the right direction. 3 to 5k for the bus, skies the limit on the inside. Pretty sure that you must paint it. This type of bus will most likely have springs for suspension. Stiff ride but will get you where your going. You'll have to certify it as a motorhome, unless of course you have a CDL. That varies by state. Usually has to been inspected by sheriff and signed off on. You can buy older MCI, GM, motor coaches for about the same money. But the repair cost will put you in the poor house. A rebuilt 8v71 detroit diesel will set you back 12 to 15 thousand. If you can find anyone that can work on it at all. 2 stroke don't ya know.
Have to be careful how you use it, school buses are CDL B vehicles, You can use it for private use BUT if you put to many people in it you need a passenger endorsement through a CDL
Why not. Though I darn sure don't look forward the idea of filling it up with diesel. But, it would be interesting to see it at the local Drive In. Just don't park behind it unless you're there for purposes other than viewing the movie.
Wait, are there any Drive Ins still open?

School districts will really point me in the right direction? Nice, I'll definitely have to try that out.
I was looking around yesterday and found a bus enthusiast to has like 20 buses that he fixes and sells up just a few hours north of me. He's probably worth a call as well.
I probably won't be getting it this month but I hope to soon.
When Melanie and Amanda were doing dog shows every weekend we looked at a ex Sugarloaf ski bus, basically a smaller bus that had less seats than regular bus but we wanted to make it into a dog kennel/sleeping bus for them so they wouldn't have to rent motel rooms for overnight stays. they retire those buses all the time and they are well taken care of because of the conditions of a ski area and transporting people from the lodge to their rental condos.
that was I forget the model bus but had a 460 ford motor in it with an automatic trany, Melanie drove it and wasn't that worried about driving it but we never did buy it so I can't really say how dependable it was, the price was great actually, it would have paid for itself in a couple of months of dog shows with not having to pay motels and such. problem was the mileage, not all that great.
But as you said the mechanicals can be repaired, even the frame can if you know how to weld and know what you are doing. those always have lots of storage inside and out for guests ski equipment and luggage. being a ski lodge bus it was constantly left running and that may have made the engine have more or less ware but I guess that is up for discussion what is worse an engine constantly running or one constantly restarting.

Picked this up for $3500 off craigslist. 155k miles on a Ford 6.0 Diesel with Allison trans. Could pull the driveline and sell for a profit, not counting the steel recycling prices for the rest. Taken it to tons of places.
