One reason my wife and I try to limit how much screen time our daugther gets, and it drives us crazy when her aunts and uncles come over and dont listen when we tell them we dont want them playing on their tablets and phones with her.

I notice alot of the time around people I'm the only one looking around and listening instead of staring at my phone screen. That said, I dont have a smart phone yet either.

I ironically saw this on Facebook today. It's a really good message. Next time you're in a restaurant look around at all the people with their faces in their phones, it's kind of sad actually. We don't have kids yet but have vowed to not to let them get like that. If your idea of parenting is shoving an iPad at your kid then you need help yourself

Now, now, guys, let's not get carried away here. Pretty soon there will be a Google chip for every brain and all of that phone/ tablet / social media stuff will disappear because we will be connected directly. With Google cars not needing drivers, all of this will meld into one streamlined interconnected stream. The Utopian vision will be real at last. With the village raising children things will work out just fine. The next generations won't need to read or write. We will still need plumbers, though.

TI'm glad to see kids still crowding the play areas near my home.
We don't allow much "tech time".
No screens at dinnertime, ever. Less than 1 hour of "screentime" per day for him. Maybe a show when he gets home from school.
Scouts, teeball. Rc boats and bicycles.bugs and dirt and models and drawing. Math and piano and reading and toys and other things NOT "techy". His DS (a Christmas gift from a relative) has less than 5 hours of use. I DO see some kids glued to their screens, but less than I used to. Or maybe we just don't see it, because we are "out" mostly. When company comes over, I make the kids put away their tech, and we do other stuff instead.

But you know, I'm a little torn. This tech placates those who used to do mindlessly physical work all day, and now they push a few buttons instead, so these screens fill up the rest of their time. It keeps them occupied. Given the choice, many would prefer the screen over the alternatives.

I'm finding it very refreshing to find these videos less and less "familiar" to my personal situation...

But I'm not raising a luddite. My son LOVES tech, but he also loves dirt. He would prefer to do physical stuff rather than digital...

I run NoScript now. Being in the industry I knew that the tracking and logging is bad but not just how bad. I am surprised how many places are informed about what I am doing just from one little click. It's damn near exponential. There will never again be any privacy.

The best you can hope for is to minimize it.

Great quote he made: We're a Generation of Smart Phones and Dumb People.

Some people give their lives in exchange for trivial exchanges:

These people are a danger to all of us.
