After the compliments I've been getting on the boxes I built for my wife and I and seeing what they are selling for on e-Bay, I'm thinking I might make 10 or so and see if I can sell them. It's a small investment (around $300) with the potential of about $900 in return considering the current "buy it now" prices I see on e-Bay. Plus my future son in-law wants me to build their regulated box mods, so I've been researching the parts and working up a price list to do them. It looks to be around $50-$60 in parts to make the 120w version he's wanting and those are around $200 on e-Bay. This might be a viable sideline for me I can use to supplement our income through the winter when my work hours are shortened due to the weather. Heck these are something I could even build on weekends during the summer also if I wanted and they sell well enough.
If you build it, they will vape. Although I'm not interested in another mod, I bet they'll sell well. If you're willing to put out the initial cost with the understanding that you might end up with a box full of unsold mods, I say go for it! Maybe sell the first few at just over cost then increase the price as you get your rep up? I'd include a video, too. If someone sees one working, it might entice them to buy. Batteries are cheap (VTC4s are less than $15 and I've seen the purple eFests for around $10) so make sure you include those. Maybe include a 45 day warranty. Nobody will ever use it but it gives potential customers a warm feeling. Make some FLASHY and others classy. (I might buy one of the all wood Rios next year just because it's nice and understated.) Maybe 10% off for PFF'ers or members of any local club you might belong to? That might help get the word out. Just some thoughts.
Picked up a Mutation X (v2) tonight. Nice little (18650) mech mod with RBA. Wide bore drip tip and LOTS of air intake with all the holes wide open. I've had to keep most of them closed or it's too airy. Fairly deep well for a dripper. Light weight with a flat magnetic bottom button (no lock ring!). The only thing that slightly detracts from it is the proprietary tip. It's wide bore all the way so it doesn't accept a standard 510 tip although a 510 tip WILL fit inside the Mutation X tip. I got the all black version. I paid about $80. Built up a nice .08 dual coil.
In bad news, my Vapor Shark died. The display started reading "Too Hot" (even without an atty). Only way to get back to the regular screen was to remove/reinstall the battery. Even then, it would show a dead battery with a freshly charged battery. I called VS and they said to send it back for repair (it's only 3 months old). They claimed it would take a week and a half. The B&M vape shop said they've sent 4 back already and stopped being a distributor. They said the turn around time would probably be more like 3-4 weeks. We'll see. Great mod when it was working. One of the vape shop employees let me use his Hana until I get my VS back since the VS was the only "good" regulated mod I had. (My MVPs are good but won't push the 20+ watts I need/want when I drip. 11 watts just doesn't cut it. )

Good ideas. I had been considering making it so you could "add" a set of the purple efest for $10-$15 but it might just be better to include them. If I included those though, then they'd need a way to be charged so I'd have to include a charger for them. Again that's not that expensive for a basic 2 battery charger, only about $5, so it might not be to bad. I just want to keep what I make competitively priced.
Sorry to hear about your Shark malfunctioning . Hopefully you get the quicker turn around time, but that's pretty awesome that the guy at the shop is giving you a loaner while it's off getting fixed.

What's a good resource for learning about these things? I purchased one for my brother, he had a baby and if he could stop smoking it would be great, he tried the cigarette look a like ones and wasn't impressed, I bought him a $5.88 eGo from eBay and he loves it. I am a former smoker that occasionally buys disposable ecigs when I feel the need to smoke or when I want to stay awake diving so I bought a few more for myself and to give away.

I bought a couple of Vulcans to go on our boxes and love them. That Mutation looks pretty nice to. The deck looks similar to whats on our Tobh and the Vulcan. It does look like it would be real airy with all those holes lined up though. The Vulcan has 3 little air holes on each side but no way to adjust them. Still it feels just restrictive enough to not be to airy.
Kanger has a new tank coming out that is a sub ohm clearo with an optional rebuild deck with it!
Me needs a new mod!
Let me know how you like that Big Dripper, k? I've been looking at it but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I am curious to see this sub ohm clearo though...

Well, this thread might help. Other than that, what I didn't already know or learned from trial and error. I did watch some Youtube videos on different coil types just to see some options, but I suppose some Youtube videos would be good to. When it came to mech mods and RDA's (rebuilding and all) there wasn't much I didn't already know from my schooling in electronics. I understood ohms law and knew how to measure or calculate what I should come out with when using dual coils and such. I knew how to check it with my multimeter and how to wire up a box mod. I've had to do some reading and calculating to figure out how to provide the regulator I'm looking at what it needs to give me what I want from it, but I don't think there is really a tutorial on something like that out there unless it's on electronics in general (there might be, but I suspect you'd be more likely to fond someone saying "this is how I did it" rather than showing you how to figure it out on your own. Honestly though, any questions you have, ask away here . It's kind of funny actually because my daughters fiancee is who got me really looking into vaping more than those little electric cigarette looking ones, yet now he comes to me asking me questions on it, LOL. Another possibility is a vaping forum? I've stumbled across a few but haven't really joined any yet. I know my daughters fiancee is in a couple of vaping groups on Facebook, so you could look there to?

I guess it all depends on your price point. If you plan on selling your box mods for $100, an extra 20 bucks wouldn't be bad. If you plan on selling them for $50, that's another story.
I was happy that I got ANY loaner. That it's a Hana (which I think is one of the few mods comparable to my VS....other than the non-working part, of course) just makes it better. They had a well worn ZMax but it's....well worn (with emphasis on the "worn" part).

You can cut off any of the holes including all of them one one side so, in theory, you could run just 3 holes (total) or all 18 (or any combination of 3). All 18 holes is WAY to airy. With dual coils, I've got 3 holes on each side open. When I replace the coils, I'll probably go with a single and leave only 3 holes on the coil side open. I like lung hits but I want to feel a "little" bit of resistance.
If you don't build TOO hot, you could "adjust" the air holes by sticking your finger over some of them. Probably not a good idea with a really hot build, though. Some guy at the vape shop built a quad running at an estimated 250 watts. Just touch the trigger and it would smoke vape like a train. He got some juice from the air holes on his finger and it burned him (little blisters and all). That's just a tad too hot for me to comfortably vape.
Let me know how you like that Big Dripper, k? I've been looking at it but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I am curious to see this sub ohm clearo though...
I don't think I have anything with enough power to run it well and probably will just add it to the stock pile for now. Planning on an upgrade soon but I will be a little more reserved when choosing instead of buying them all Wouldn't have bought these two but the prices were almost embarrassing. we'll see though, clones are a gamble.

Not bad looking really, but from the way it reads it looks like to go sub-ohm with it you have to buy the .5 ohm dual coil unit that screws into the tank. It doesn't look like a true rebuildable? It appears to be "like" their protanks in that it uses screw in coil units.
The rebuild unit replaces the standard coil pack and is pictured to the right. Its going to be a very small deck but people take apart and rebuild the standard coils so I bet it's easier than that. Not the most comprehensive look at it, is it.

Ah okay, that does sound neat. I agree though, it won't be much room to do the build. I tried taking one of the regular coils apart once to rebuild it. My big fingers didn't cooperate...
Not bad looking but if I want to build a sub ohm coil on a tank, I'll build it on my Kayfun. I rarely use either of my Kanger tanks anymore. Either it's the Kayfun or one of my RDAs. (I'm really diggin' this Mutation X although I SWEAR the wicks were wet when I got home this morning. Turns out they weren't. Hadn't vaped all night since I was at work so I thought I'd hit it HARD. UGH!)
Well, I got inpatient waiting for the switch I was going to try for a parallel/series box and decided to just make mine a dual parallel for now. I ordered 2 more boxes, 510 connectors, mosfet and momentary switches to use as testers for the parallel/series box and the 120 watt regulated box (I ordered the regulator to). I really like this dual parallel set up though. It gives a more consistent vape over a longer period of time.

You're going to have to let us know when you get serious about getting those out in the wild. I might just get into a box myself.
Once I figure out if the parallel/series box I'm trying works, I'll get parts for making 10 or so of these. If the parallel/series works, I'm thinking I will make those while I'm prototyping the regulated box. I just think having the use of parallel or series in the same mod will be a bonus point for someone looking to buy a box mod.
Decisions, decisions... One of my daughters co-workers asked my daughter where she got her box mod. She showed him hers and then pictures of ours and told him the ones her dad makes are nicer than what she'd got. He asked her to have me make him one and she told him it'd be $75, what they paid each for theirs. So looks like the second set of parts I was going to use for the regulated development is going to be used for it and the third set I ordered today will be used for the regulated. I guess my daughter has decided that anyone who asks her or her fiancee, she's going to push for them to buy from me. It appears I'm going to have to get going on this sooner than I thought.
Sneak peek . It's not done yet but the series or parallel select-able is almost done. I couldn't find a switch with enough rated amperage, so I opted for a fuse block. Change the fuse positions either both up or both down for series or parallel.
Testing the circuits.

Before I built the dual purpose box above, a friend of my daughters at her employer asked her about her mod box. She told him that the ones her father makes are better and showed him the pictures of ours. He asked if I could make him one either with wood grain or blood red. I tried to stretch out the paint and create a kind of burl wood pattern, but it didn't turn out as good as I wanted. Still she showed him pictures of it and I told her if he didn't like I'd sand it down and refinish it. He LOVED the pictures of it in progress. He especially loved that it was both blood red and kinda wood grainish.
She picked it up 2 days ago to deliver it. He wasn't there but several other people she works with saw it and asked her about it. She put batteries in it and let them try it with her RDA. Now she has brought me orders for 5 more at $100 each. I hadn't planned to really start in on this until mid to the end of January, but it looks like I'm starting a month early.

That looks AWESOME! How did you paint it? Looks like you've got a new business.
Just like this but on a much smaller scale and with a single color (black) over the base red color. Several coats of clear, let it dry and polish it up. After that I put in the button, battery tray and 510 connector. The worst part is waiting for the clear to cure hard enough that it won't dimple. I'm going to have to attempt 2 or 3 colors over a pink base coat as one of the 5 wants "pink camo".

I know it's unlikely, but if your going to buy a box mod like the ones I am making, please beware what you are buying. There are some being sold on e-bay currently under the name Zeus Box. Someone local to me bought one and was experiencing malfunctioning from the get go. He was looking for someone to fix it and we agreed on a price for me to rewire it for him, plus parts if any were needed. Not only was the wire undersized, 20 Ga.? Really? For the whole thing? But when I peeled back the heat shrink from around the mosfet, I found that they had done nothing to insulate the pins from one another. This means a slight jarring to the box could shift the wiring and cause the box to start firing, possibly leading to fire or explosion of the batteries if it wasn't stopped. So please, please, please make sure what your getting is built right.
And this is after the rebuild.

This week has been a strange one for me and my vaping. I bought a kayfun clone off ebay, and after a little trial and error i got it going good. I really like it over the Aerotank. Not even a full 24 hours of using it and i drop it. After the drop i wasnt getting any resistance reading on the coil so i figured the coil broke or came loose. Unfortunately that wasnt the case. The 510 connector on my MVP broke, and the center post screw on the kayfun broke.
I didnt want to buy another MVP so i stepped it up a little and got myself a nice xmas present. It wasnt cheap, but its very high quality and made in America so thats nice.
So right now im using the Provari with my Aerotank again until the replacement part for the kayfun comes in.
The ProVari™ 3 voltage can be adjusted from 2.9 - 6.0 in 0.1 volt increments. The ProVari™ 3 wattage can be adjusted from 3 – 20 in 0.2 watt increments. Sub-ohm capability - down to .70 ohms.
Not to bad at all. Nice looking unit also.
I've been hearing a lot of buzz for the Atlantis tank mod. My worry with it though is it's another one with the screw in coil units. People sure do seem to like it though.

Just bought a terra mod and I friggen hate it :/. DNA got stolen from a party I went to so I am thinking about building my own box.
Judging by everything else you've done it should be easy for you. If you need any help finding the parts, I can link you to some of the places I get mine. Such as the 510 connectors from here. http://www.varitube.com/510...2mm-285mm_p_141.html

I am kinda jealous....... OK totally jealous! They have a fantastic reputation.
So., just to clarify... it WAs an accident, right?
Just bought a Sir Lance Alot mod dark horse RDA all in copper. Total impulse buy but they had non clones in stock to my surprise so I said screw it and bought the mod and RDA. This thing is a beast! It is a very pretty setup and the amount of craftsmanship in the firing button is insane with the small inlays. The Darkhorse RDA is the easiest thing to build due to the giant posts and holes however I wish the cap was a bit more snug but ill run some over sized o rings.Today I bought a new pro tank for my MVP along with 2 18650's, juice and some 22 awg kanthol to build a few other RDA's I have. I almost bought a IPV3 today but I am so impressed with the sir lance a lot I passed on it and will be ordering the parts for a box mod
Just a small update from my corner of the world...
As some of you know, I bought a Protank 3 last year. Seemed to be a good investment at the time, but I was wrong. This thing sucks! Well, I should be more specific, the dual coils suck. I've tried the 2.5(?) resistance coils, 2.0, 1.8, and 1.5 ohm coils. The 2.5 and 2.0 units Ive used have the partially exposed wick, and those flood very easily, the lower ohm units seem to be self contained and do not flood. The vapor production of any of these coil is terrible, sometimes I'll get one that works well and lasts for about 2 weeks, but usually they only last about 4-5 days before I start to choke on the burned out coil/wick vapor. I also notice that these burn through more juice than the clearomizers. Doesn't matter how high the voltage is set either, too high and Ill choke and what seems to be a burning fabric, metallic, tasting cloud. One time I coughed so hard that I saw stars and almost passed out. Im thinking about just switching back to the clearomizers since those produced more of a vapor cloud that satisfied my tastes. I cant carry around a large mech or tank like some that are out there, and drip tip tanks will not work either or Ill have a pocket full of juice(sts).
I would not recommend buying a tank that uses the kangertech dual coil units, since there seems to be quite a few out there that use these.
I agree. I didn't like the protank 3 that I bought either. The burned fabric/metallic taste is from the coils vaping the juice faster than the wick can deliver it. The only thing I can think to combat that would be lowering your voltage, but then it will take a while for the coils to heat up. I've heard really good things about the Atlantis, but I believe the coils in it are sub ohm. I may be wrong and they may have some available that aren't, but if your using a eGo style battery, it may not be able to handle a sub ohm coil. I know I've seen a few eGo style batteries lately that are being designed to handle sub ohm tanks like the Atlantis or the new Kanger sub ohm tank. It's just a matter of those style battery producers catching up to what's on the market now tank wise.
Me, I'm still using my box mod I made and the Vulcan RDA. I have been looking at some other RDAs to try out like the Mutation X that has a lot more air flow. The Vulcan is great for flavor and "okay" for clouds but doesn't really have the air flow for a big cloud. I'm okay with it mostly and it will stay may daily use vape, but I'd like to have a cloud RDA for the ocassional "fun" of it.
Oh yeah and yes, dual coils, sub ohm, drippers and such will go through juice MUCH faster. I found that the juice I get from stricly e juice has a strong enough flavor that I can dilute the juice with an equal amount of VG and the flavor stands up to it. So I've been buying .6 mg nic 30 ml's from them and diluting it with another 30 ml's of VG, resulting in 60 ml's of .3 mg nic. It lasts pretty good that way . The only disappointing thing is they changed their strawberry flavor and I don't like the new flavor. Maybe some day if enough complain they will change it back.
No Kanger dual coil problems here. I have every one up to the Giant. Two weeks on a coil would be awesome. I get three to five days, some a little longer, others are crap from the gitgo. Who cares, coils are cheap. Sweet dark juices can chew them up pretty quick too
Clearomizers are great for what they are but certainly have their limitations.
I've got a couple Aerotanks. The coils with the wicks sticking out are the old style. The ones with the mostly hidden wicks are the new style and much better. I found that the lower resistance coils worked better. Since I got my Kayfun, I rarely use either of the Aerotanks. Either I'm vaping on the Kayfun or I'm dripping on the Mutation X.
