But it feels childish.

They would throw away a good man to prove a mostly insignificant point?

If the company policy is to wear the company shirt, and the boss allows someone to work without a company shirt, people will start showing up left and right without the shirts on.

The shirts help identify what company you work for. A lot of places have multiple employers in one location. Company shirts can be important.

I don't see any problem with what the boss did, and I think you were an idiot for showing up out of dress code. Also, I highly doubt you're the #1 best worker if you're still a temp.

And tho we dont like to admit it, ( 'its not about appearances' ) a uniform does present a sense of 'professionalism' that cant be discounted. Fairly or not, if you get 2 people at the door, one is in a uniform driving a clean van with a logo, the other in a ripped t-shirt with a filthy rusted out F-150... we will lean towards the uniformed guy.

If your job requires that you wear a uniform, then it's no surprise they sent you home. You were out of uniform. I hope you didn't expect them to make an exception to their uniform policy, just for you.

Edit to add: if you got sent home for the day (i.e. not just to get a uniform and come back), then you may have been given a one-day suspension. If that's the case, then it's the first step of a process that ends up with you being fired. You may want to ask your manager to clarify that.

if it is over a uniform, buy a few extras and leave in the car/work. Just make sure you have one or two available there, all the time. Just in case.

You can't eat unless you work? I'm sorry you never learned how to be a man.

I can hunt, without guns if needed.
I can identify most edible plants in the woods.
I grow my own meat, and vegetables. (Some fruit)
I keep all my "large" bills paid off, so I don't have to worry about not working. (Cars paid for, house paid for etc.)

And I'm not alone. Heck, Steve can do it! Why would you assume our younger, smarter members cannot?

Aliens pay for themselves, they bring you cool tech you can sell, like Velcro.
