I'm with you, but what I don't get is that other arms of protection or self defense such as switchblades, nunchakus, brass knuckles and etc are deemed illegal. No one has ever explained why I cannot purchase or posses a switchblade but a handgun is ok?
A gun isn't the only arms out there. How about open carry a ninja sword or a bull whip. I would personally like to carry a switchblade for protection but its illegal and 2nd amendment advocates say nothing about this.
Not all 2A advocates are silent on this. I, for one, am not. I know I've stayed out of politics on PFF for quite a while but when I did participate more, I was right there with you on this. As the saying goes:
"The 2A is not about hunting. It was designed so that if the need arose, American citizens would be as well armed as the oppressive government that they might have to rebel against".

Right, hunting so you can eat, is implicit in other places ( life, liberty.. bla bla ).
I guess one can make the argument that the 2nd is ONLY for this 'resistance preparedness', and 'personal protection' concepts falls under the implicit side of things.

Well yeah.. im not an "anti-gun weenie, i support gun rights", but what other motivation (other than for sport shooting) does one own guns?
For one, people don't NEED to have a reason, simply because it's our right. But if you must ask, there are a lot of reasons why someone might want to buy a gun... people collect things. Some people collect stamps, some people collect cars, some people collect guns. Some people like to target practice. Some people just like to shoot random stuff on their property out in God's country. Others buy them for protection, and others buy them for hunting. Some people buy them (as is the case in Texas) because it goes with an outfit. In the case of most women, they just do it because they can get a good deal on it.

Oh, but you see... in OUR country, it specifically states that we are allowed to own guns, and that ownership of guns must not be infringed upon. So... your theory about how things should be doesn't matter.

What does matter is that we had enough Balls to tell the king and queen of England that we weren't going to take it anymore, what was it 238 Years ago. Where as his country has yet to do it,
And both driver and car have to be licenced right?
And most states require a license to be a plumber, or cut hair, or both. Although the woman who cuts my wife's hair has never offered to solve any of her plumbing problems. Anyway, do you have point? The Constitution makes no mention of cars and has not been amended do so, so what is your point?

I wonder if its illegal to carry your cars tire iron in your belt.....
In some places, it would be. Its mostly about 'intent'. If you carry a piece of rebar under your car seat, it could be considered as a weapon due to intent, while if you work concrete for a living an have a truck load, not so much.
( in my case, i had it in my car to keep the damned hood open.. but i got some flack once for it )
Its not a right to drive a car...its a privilege to those who can pass the tests. While you do have the right to own a car if you want, you do have to have a license to drive in on a public street, and you have to buy plates to pay for the use of the roads.

I disagree, but we have been down that path before.
I can accept tests for public safety reasons, but i still say its a *right*, as we have a right to 'move around' and that is the current mode to do it. And i dont care what anyone else says. If they disagree, they are dead wrong. ( so dont bother disagreeing ) ( oh, and these tests/etc should be free.. you should not be paying for a right )

If I understand your RIGHTS then its also your right to fly a plane if you want, you dont need a licence or lessons. Then its also a free country to fly it anywhere, at any altitude, anytime you want.
Having to have a licence for a car or plane ensures you know how to operate it, and you know the laws regarding its operation. Imagine what driving (or flying) would be like if no one had to have a licence for anything.

I did say that i didnt have a problem with showing ( reasonable ) competency so that you are not a threat to the public, when your 'rights' potentially interfere with others. ( the fly your fist until you hit my face thing.. driving in public is the fist.. )

Because the illegals are the ones that mainly drive expensive imports and newer large SUV's.... those are the worst!
Well ya you do know they are all given free of cost a brand new SUV by the idiot in charge whether they have licenses or not because you can't live in America without a brand new SUV.

Mine was a sarcastic comment - I hope you got that. Just checking...
Personally, i go to a restaurant to eat. Not to watch waitresses.
Yeah, I don't really get the "hot girls" gimmick of some chains.
I like girls just as much as any other warm-blooded male, but the girls aren't going to get your jimmies off. They're gonna flirt a bit and take your money just like any other waitress.
And some areas should be gun free and gun owners should respect that. Arguments to not respecting gun free zones such as “the bad guys know these are easy targets” are based on fear…
A very rational fear...
When someone hears "shooting" what is the other word that is almost always attached? "School..." And what is the "gun-free status" of most schools?
I'd rather have more open carry at schools than anywhere else and yet it's one of the places where you can pretty much guarantee guns are outlawed.
My point exactly. Regulate guns the same way cars are regulated.
Let's consider applying your "regulation rules" to some other Constitutionally-guaranteed rights, shall we???
SPEECH: -register & re-register every year with updated checks to make sure you speak and write correct vocabulary and don't offend ANYONE -carry insurance on your mouth and pen to pay for the damage they will do when you offend someone -licenses to speak and write -license to speak and write can be revoked (by who and under what criteria???) -key to unlock the muzzle on your mouth and the handcuffs on your hands to use them
VOTING: -register & re-register every year with updated checks to make sure you vote the way the politicians currently in power want you to -carry insurance on voting rights to make sure you can pay for the lawsuit brought against you by the candidate who lost the election who you voted against -licenses to vote (I think we already had something like this a number of years ago where you had to own property in order to be able to vote, and you had to also be a certain gender and skin color to be able to vote - I don't recall that working out too well for a good portion of the population; maybe that's why we got rid of it) -license to vote can be revoked (by who and under what criteria???) -key to the voting booth
You would agree with all this, Purple86GT???
