Sure we see the "Chevrolet SS" on the NASCAR circuit, but have you seen one in REAL LIFE on the road ? Released last fall for sale, I havent seen a SINGLE ONE.
Comment or post a pic of any if you have. I see more Malibus, Volts and SUVs
At $43,500 I don't think it's going to be a hot seller. Visually the car looks OK, but it looks like most 4 Dr Sedan's out there, but it's differently not screaming SS.
I actually have seen one in the flesh! While I don't care much for 4-door sedans either, it looks very sporty. The good news (if you're in the market for one) is a 6-speed manual is coming soon.

Exactly If I have seen one I probably didn't know what it was or didn't care.

Actually, I think I have seen one. I pulled up behind it and it had the SS on the rear, but I'm thinking to myself, an SS what? Monte, Malibu, or Cruze? Until now I didn't know they were making something just called the SS. Boring and uninspired from what I barely remember of it.

Really?
Interesting. I had heard that the only option was going to be the automatic. Of course, things can change. I'm surprised they're even bothering to spend the money for EPA certification, though. This was never designed to be a high volume car, due to CAFE requirements. (Certification is probably where most of the expense is. Since they are already selling them in Australia, they've already spent all the development money required to bolt them together.)
We have had one at my dealership, sold after 3 months or so on the showroom floor.
If you know what the new Malibus look like, you would think the SS was just a Malibu unless you put them side by side. Except the 20" rims, Brembo brakes, and Corvette-ish exhaust note, its a lot like a Malibu. But once it starts, everyones' heads turn and you know its not a Malibu.
The styling doesn't impress me, but at the same time supposedly its supposed to be a sleeper anyway, so you wouldn't want it to stand out. At this point, I wouldn't buy one, but with the manual, maybe.
And they will be getting a 6 speed manual for 2015.
Chevrolet is coming out with nothing but crap cars over the last few years......and yet they killed Pontiac for "Lack of Excitement". Chevy is as boring as they come, unless you want a cookie-cutter car like the Corvette.

Same here. I was at the "GM Ride & Drive" last week at the GSR in Reno and was more interested in riding in a new Corvette. Just drove a Cruze to get to the Corvette line. There likely was a SS there though, maybe on the course ahead of the Corvettes here:

I think it's a good car but not for the price, I'm looking forward to one day buying the caprice and having a good family car after the police are done with them.

I agree with your comment on the styling. I am not impressed. Additionally, I don't like the 20 inch wheels and I don't want to see brake calipers (regardless of who built them). I don't mind the Corvette-ish exhaust note you speak of but, if I spent that kind of money, I'm not looking for a sleeper. I always enjoy a manual transmission but, I think it's wasted on this car. I doubt they will sell a bunch, I know I won't be buying one.

I've seen a few driving around - I also live near El Toro, where Motortrend and a bunch of other magazines test cars... I've seen them driving in there, and I've *heard* them, but I haven't seen them ripping down the airstrip

How is the Corvette "cookie-cutter" in any sense of the word?
Also, how is it "crap" when its a Chevy SS, and not so when its a Pontiac G8? Same car, except the Chevy has a better engine and a better interior.

Well lets see, as far as the Corvette, everyone and their mother owns one as well as most people who just want to jump on the bandwagon and try to be cool. Go to any junkyard and you can rebuild your entire Vette from the ground up from the parts you will find, they are uncomfortable as hell, put one next to the other and they all look the same, and good luck when the security solenoid in the steering column decides to fail and lock on the highway going 80mph. There is nothing original or special about any Corvette.
The G8 had a very nice look all the way around where the new Chevy cars look like your grandma should be driving around in them. There really is no sporty looking cars coming out of Chevy anymore.

Meh... Corvettes are beautiful cars. The C6 was, IMHO, one of the most beautiful cars GM ever produced. I wouldn't buy one, however. I don't have the disposable income to spend on a 50K (or used, 35K) two seater. If GM were to come out with something with a mid engine, I might force myself to make other arrangements but, otherwise, the Fiero will do.
The SS is probably a fine car, in terms of brass knuckle sedans. The 6 speed will probably help. Not enough for me to go out and buy one, however. Having said that, if I had known 5 years ago what I know now, I'd have jumped all over a G8 GXP, instead of the Challenger R/T. I just prefer the Pontiac styling to the Chevy. (I'll remind you that in 2009, lots of people thought that Chrysler/Dodge was toast. Nobody really thought that Pontiac would be axed, instead.)

"13.2-second quarter-mile at 107.4 mph 60 mph in 4.9 seconds down from 60 mph in 110 feet with no fade. GM's proven LS3 V8 powers the 2014 Chevrolet SS...rated to produce 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque."

When I had my C5 Corvette at a local LSx speciality shop - kind of ironic since the thread has headed in the direction of talking about 'Vettes - getting some tune work done, a guy brought in a new SS. I haven't actually seen one outside of a Chevrolet dealer that I can vividly recall, but he had just bought the car that week and was looking into getting more performance out of it. The shop I was at actually had not had anyone with an SS come by yet, so the owner said he'd look into performing a tune but would have to look more into exactly what he could do on a stock SS.
Indeed up close the SS is rather "civilian" in nature, but I said the same thing about the Pontiac G8s when I first saw them as I thought they looked pretty similar to other Pontiacs of the time (other than obviously being more square-ish and larger). The price may be steep for some, but yeah getting into a full-size sedan with large eight cylinder power that puts out those performance specs is not entirely unreasonable.
I know, It's basicly the same thing as the SS with IMO better styling and once they start getting sold by the PDs will be something I'll be able to afford as a project/family car. All the PDs in my area have started buying them.
The SS is the Chevy revival of the Pontiac G8, and the Caprice PPV rides on a stretched variant of the same platform - all based on the Holden Commodore. The SS, while the ultimate-sleeper, is nice, but not $40k nice. That money today will get you a fully-loaded Charger R/T with enough left for some Mopar accessories - back when the G8 was competing with the Charger it was absolutely blowing it away in price and looks, with an LS3 to boot.
That said, I've sat in and seen one SS at a car show, and worked on a couple of Caprices - I'd still take a G8 over either of them. Had Pontiac followed through with their plans to import the Holden Ute as the G8-ST, I actually would've bought it in a heartbeat.
